The party that received amnesty has just dealt a crushing blow to the party that granted it, less than a week before the Constitutional Court issues its final ruling on the legal status of Carles Puigdemont and other defendants in the independence process. What a way to end the deal.

When Puigdemont returns to Girona, Pedro Sánchez may have already decided to call early general elections, as a consequence of the setback he received yesterday in Congress. He has a good argument for doing so, and he has almost no other option. Yesterday's vote in Congress weakens the presentation of the 2027 national budget as a way to close out the legislature.
