How to Fit a DC-DC Charger in Your Campervan

Never Too Old

Never Too Old

In today’s episode, I’m finally installing my Renogy DC to DC charger — and honestly, this couldn’t have come at a better time because it’s the middle of winter, it’s freezing, and we’re expecting snow! ❄️ Having a DC-DC charger means I’m no longer relying on solar alone, which is an absolute game-changer for off-grid van life.

I’ll walk you through the entire installation process step-by-step:
🔧 Finding a spot under the bench (even though space is getting tight!)
🔧 Sorting the 16mm cables and lugs
🔧 Crimping, heat-shrinking, fusing, and all the awkward bits in between
🔧 Running the cables the full length of the van
🔧 Tidying the wiring spaghetti junction
🔧 Connecting everything to the starter battery
🔧 And finally… starting the engine to see if it actually works!

There’s wind, snow, cold hands, cables everywhere, and a few moments where I need about three extra arms — but hey, that’s van building for you!
And yes… right when I’m wrapping up the video, the charger flashes to life. Perfect timing. 😅

If you enjoyed hanging out with me today, don’t forget to hit that thumbs up, say hello in the comments, and subscribe if you haven’t already.
And always remember… you’re never too old. 💛
