Great video. Thanks for the test

MV differences looked a bit scary, and then it warmed up.  A good test.

Great video - thank you!
Our 2017 Leaf in those tenps will cover real world about 200km - this with an upgraded 40kwh battery and not cabin heat! When the dealer changed out the battery under warranty it has transformed the car...we have done some 300 - 400 km road trips but really prefer our Ioniq5 for that!
Summer is even better - we have squeezed out 300km from a 100% charge which is awesome for this old girl!
Long live the Leaf!
Cheers

Very interesting video,  thank you

Nice video, per usual!

30KM range is getting down  low enough to not be able handle the average commute. I expected our Fiat 500e to be in similar shape after 10 years, but I've been pleasantly surprised that it's only maybe off 10% from "new". In those temps it'd get 80-100KM. I believe the liquid heating and cooling is the crucial difference. Glad the brand new Leafs finally have it and they look really cool!

-18 "its actually not all that cold" omg I would probably die lol im from Australia and the coldest it EVER gets here where I live during the winter is around 2c so -18 is bone freezing for us. Good videos by the way as it shows how the extreme lows still dont fully kill a EV.

Since I have only had my 2018 leaf for 9 months now im interested to see how it handles the Australian summer as it was 100% fine throughout our winter and given that we can have multiple days over 35c with it even getting over 40c it will be interesting to see how the air cooled battery holds up.

Interesting... Just in context... The UK government calculations on enviromental impacts of our transition, are based on EV's durability being the same as ICE vehicles and that their lifecycle is 200,000 Km and 14 years before being scrapped. Since some cars are always going to be lost through accidents etc... Those targets are only going to be achieved with a good number of EVs going way further and being useable at 20 years and beyond.

Not a fan of Nissan, but it seems to be a fighter.  First gen Nissan Leaf had a small 24kwh battery.  Was revised to a 40kwh for some of the 2016 models.  Next gen after had a 64kwh for the Leaf Plus trim.  Nissan probably tried keeping the price low for it's introduction of the Leaf into the EV world by using a smaller battery.  Still, for the age of the 1st gen, they've proven to be a pretty reliable EV.  If I'm not mistaken, the 1st gens can get a bigger 2nd gen battery installed when the time comes to replace it.
Glad YT felt the need to suggest your video.
Good job with the detailed "review". 👍

I loved my leaf when I had it, was such a tiny battery but got me through everything I needed in a typical day. Now driving an id4 and it’s much nicer but it doesn’t have the charm of the leaf

Good video, if Nissan release a firmware to SET the Battery Heater Operating Temperature. We would use it a lot to set it at -5 - 0 degree for exemple. Btw, the battery heater is an option in North America, and Europe/UK, now offered in Leaf 2026. The factory auto-on is 15 Celcius i think, based in the air sensor temperature, (not the battery temperature).
the other alternative ultimate option is to have a warm garage, even to keep the battery warm in winter and in summer.

The way i rapidly warm to reach the Zero OC ultimate degree to operate the leaf optimally, if you have a hill nearest, climb it at max power, it will warm rapidly and on a  short distance. Even if it's causing the turtle to appear. It will regain power rapidly after. Turn off/on the car and no turtle after a couples of minutes.

Once Warm, (idealy Zéro C) it will recharge more rapidly, and near to full.
Recharging at 0 and more prevent the battery degradation.
Live long to that 2015 :)

A leaf driving a leaf will never not be funny to me.

Will still rapid gate in the cold

You should consider buying a Chademo to CCS adapter. Ot take it to a aftermarket shop and install a nacs port. Chademo is going to eventually lose mosr support even though theres lots of cars left who use the plug. New chargepoints seem to only supply CCS and NACS

So you started with 19.3 km on you second odometer (2:14) with 100% charged battery (plus being heated) showing 80 km range left. Then you have driven 5 km (6:17) and it shows 62 km left. After 19.6 km total it's 39% left with 29 km range (7:33). After 23.9 km total it's 27% left with 23 km range, i.e. in reality it's over and you have to either consider charging already or be somewhere next to your destination. I wouldn't say like you "it's performing well", I'd say it pretty shocking bad result.

Very interesting to see the real world cold weather results.
It's important to keep these older EVs in use as affordable transport.
In Canada, do insurance companies allow a battery upgrade to a battery pack from a 40kWh crashed car or new modern cells?

I don't live anywhere cold anymore, but I know what cold sounds like. That's a properly cold day.

I have a P3180 and a P33de took out codes can drive now but I have even took around the block yet.SOH 47% SOC 78% Not in the cold

I find the Leaf range estimate in your video way off. Estimated range when you started was 80 km, you drove about 20 km and it shows 29km remaining. I suppose it can't account for the heating when you started out which would account for a lot I expect. How do you normally find the range estimate? Is it at all useful?

Hello sir,
Q1... should I buy 2012 in almost 2026?
Q2... how much does it cost to replace the battery?
Q3... will you sell me your leaf 🍃?
Thank you.

10 years old? My 2007 petrol car drives just like it was new and it has never seen a garage.
