The 6 to 5 blackjack point is the one most casual players never catch until it is too late. What makes it particularly effective as a strategy is that single deck games were always marketed as the player-friendly option — fewer decks, better odds. Pairing that perception with a 6 to 5 payout was genuinely clever. The players who think they are making the smart choice are actually sitting at the worst game on the floor.

The irony is that if they'd just paid their taxes and kept Spilotro in line they'd probably still be running the properties today. Greed got the best of them.

It's a huge error not to put part of the drop in numbers down to policies from Trump. Just as an example from me, I play poker and normally try to qualify online for the wsop. I didn't fancy some goon from ICE reading my social media history criticizing him and the government, and denying me entry (or worse) so I didn't even bother. I can safely say that many thousands of potential visitors took a similar view / approach.

I really enjoyed your video breaking everything down with regards to that scam, but I’m a little (more) disappointed by you putting casino closures and drop in bookings down to the scam instead of the Canadian boycott (extending worldwide) of Las Vegas and the US. The scam was still working the year before.

The American propaganda bubble is showing.

The change in Las Vegas (and Florida/Arizona/Texas and many others etc) was the tourist boycott’s due to the US political policies. Just check out Las Vegas (amongst other cities) begging Canadians to come back. Including offering Canadian dollars at par.

What really changed was Las Vegas visitors dropped by 11% to 15% year-over-year in 2025, with Canadian visitation dropping approximately 24% from 1.4 million in 2024.

Air Canada and WestJet passenger numbers to Las Vegas fell by over 30%, while Flair saw a 62% decline, as traveller’s avoided the US. Some flights and routes were even cancelled because of so few passengers making it not financially viable.

High tariff costs along with them affecting inflation, grocery prices etc also impacted domestic tourist who now couldn’t afford to travel let alone the high scam prices.
