Legend has it 31 years later people are still leaving this concert!

That's what 1.6 million people standing together looks like. Mind blown.

Hetfield stood on that stage like he owned the whole goddamn world.  Astonishing.  Not one quiver in his voice, nothin.  And only 28 years old.  Damn dude.
A truly historic moment on so many levels.
 ☮️❤️🎶

You will never see a crowd this big ever again. This is ridiculous I love it

NO CGI, no AI, simply unrivaled madness.

lesson from a guy who was there, sort of. The Monsters of Rock concert was a free concert put on by the Russian government. It was held at the Tushino Airfield in Moscow, during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. They estimated 1.6 million attendees. Being American I was not allowed to go but I was in the US Embassy about 3 miles away. If you look at the crowds those structures you see are actually speaker towers. The concert was so loud that inside the Embassy we still measured the sounds at an average of 96db. According to an official memo received by the Embassy in following days, there were 54 deaths attributed to the concert and the following day over 126k people were treated for hearing loss. And those helicopters you referenced had a dual purpose, one was to move the air around in the crowd and also be on standby in case an emergency rescue was needed. Also, the Russian military was doing security. Any other questions that I can answer, just let me know

No autotune, no backtrack, no effects just raw talent!

Just got back from the concert
I can confirm that it was insane!

Justin Bieber: hey everyone I sold out a stadium

Metallica: hey everyone we sold out a country

Respect to the sound engineer  pull this of without power outages

I was there in 1991. Was in the crowd about 30 meters from the stage. Feelings like you have now, only multiplied by 10 times.

This was my first introduction to Metallica by my group home room mate, Peter Burke from Sacramento... Donald said thanks for putting me on to them 💯

That crowd is an introvert’s worst nightmare

I can't even imagine what it must feel like to look out and see that vast ocean of people there for one thing, to hear you perform. That must be a high like no other.

I remember my Special Forces A Team being sent over there to provide private security for all the bands. I was backstage standing beside a Russian soldier and he was crying. I asked if he was okay and he said " yes comrade, yes my brother. I may call you brother yes?". I said da it would be my honor. He then said " You will never be able to understand the joy in my heart seeing my people so happy and having so much fun.". Then he wiped his tears and stood rigid and tall. We have kept in touch ever since. Hello Mikhail Dolvetchkov I hope you see this.

I wonder how many of them understand the importance of this moment and why it was such a big crowd.

Can you imagine having a concert so big it took at least two countries soldiers to keep people safe???!? No one died and there were 1.6 million people jumping around.😮❤

1.5 million metal heads.........the definition of bad ass! 😎👍

I like that AC/DC also played at this concert.
