I was in an upper group, they graded our tests more strictly than the other groups. I remember getting a question wrong, looking at a friends in another group and he had the same answer, took both our tests to the teacher and she said it was because I was expected to give more detail and explanation. From then on I did the minimum in class to get by, messed us up just as much.

At my school it was called top set or bottom set, if you were in the bottom set it was major embarrassment! 😭

The lower/top set is still a thing at school. They also get positive and negative points in every lesson. It's like constantly being on school report. It's mad.

On the subject of talking in cabs, my last cabbie who was taking me home spent the full trip telling me how my road is a sh*thole and I should move cause it's too hard to drive down or park down...I paid to have my home judged by a stranger!!

The worst taxi I ever got in was when I was 20. I was going into town on a Saturday night and had a taxi driver I had had a couple of times before. He had always been very chatty, which I didn't mind, but on this occasion he was extra chatty. He told me he loved my perfume and was very emphatic about it. He must have said three times how much he loved it and asked me what it was called. He then said "it smells so good I could eat it". I did an awkward laugh but just desperately wanted to get out, but still had about a mile to go. He then started telling me a story about how he had been looking for something in his teenage daughters room and found her sex toys and didn't know what to do about it. I remember thinking 'this man is a serial killer' 😐. Fortunately I got out alive but never used that taxi company again!!

My school didnt have "uppers and lowers". But we did have "gifted and talented" groups for the smarter people. We just didnt have a term for the lowers
