Today's reaction/analysis is concerned with the song "Almaty Story of One Sky" by Dimash. I've been a fan of Dimash for quite some time now, and after my previous video on his masterpiece "The Story of One Sky," many of you suggested I watch the Almaty concert version. Initially, I wondered why I should watch the same song in a different format, but my curiosity got the better of me. Trusting your recommendations, I dove in to see what all the fuss was about.
In this video, I explore Dimash's extraordinary vocal range and captivating stage presence, which left me utterly mesmerised. His performance is not just about his voice but the powerful messages embedded in his songs. I discuss how his humanitarian focus shines through, transcending mere entertainment and functioning as a profound political and compassionate message. The live performance added a new layer of depth and passion that I found more impactful than the cinematic version.
Watching the Almaty concert, I observed how the audience connected deeply with the song's message, indicating a transformative experience rather than just entertainment. This reaction highlights how Dimash's music brings people together, urging us to consider our shared humanity and the senselessness of conflict. His ability to engage the audience emotionally and intellectually is truly remarkable. I delve into how his messages resonate with broader societal and psychological themes.
Throughout the video, I compare Dimash's global potential to that of iconic figures like Michael Jackson, emphasising his deserving place on the world stage. His humanitarian messages and flawless performances make him a beacon of hope in a divided world. I reflect on how these themes are not just relevant but crucial for our collective well-being and mental health. My analysis aims to shed light on how music and performance can inspire and enact positive change.
We would love to hear your thoughts and any shared experiences you have with this song. Please leave your comments below, and let me know if there are more Dimash songs or other media you'd like me to react to. Your recommendations and insights are invaluable. Every 3 years the ‘Congress of the Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions’ is held in Kazakhstan. The Congress reports directly back to the United Nations’ and the final message at the end of ‘One Sky’ is a quote from the report submitted in 2019.
In September 2022 Dimash was invited to perform at the ‘Seventh Congress of the Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions’ and actually premiered (singing ‘live’) “The Story of One Sky” to over 100 religious leaders at this ‘closed’ event. These leaders responded with a standing ovation and referred to ‘One Sky’ as the unofficial anthem of the event. The following day Dimash was presented to Pope Francis and was given a medal and he received a blessing from the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Whamad el-Tayeb.
So, choosing both the quote at the end of the song/MV and what he chooses to do in the ‘vocalise’ section of the song then becomes, to me anyway, more poignant and powerful.
In the ‘vocalise’ there is, at the very least, the Muslim call to prayer, the Jewish Shofar, the Om of Buddhism and Hinduism and the bells of the Christian church so he has woven musical references of the world’s faiths together!
Earlier this year Dimash was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the UN (IOM) & only this week was appointed by the World Congress for Traditional Religions & Faiths their Goodwill Ambassador. Earlier this summer he performed for 12 Presidents and also met with the UN General Secretary in one week - for me, it’s amazing to realise that any 30 year old singer who is so passionate about global unity & peace is being heard by these leaders.
