Steve listening very carefully to the interviewer, the whole time.

This is a great clip of Billy Corgan talking out loud while allowing Steve Vai to chime in about his own life from time to time.

The most compelling part of this segment was what Steve said: “You can't compete with them, but rather with yourself—to bring out the best in you.” That statement shows he's a focused, intelligent individual with a well-defined personality and admirable humility

It was awesome to hear Billy Corgan tell Steve Vai what Steve Vai's moments and memories actually meant.

I thought he'd bring up Ralph Macchio... 😄

Please, let the guest talk.

I love Steve, so down to earth  humble  and gets it.

I came her to hear what Billy had to say about Steve's life and thoughts, while facing Steve.

Here's my Vai/Malmsteen story. It was June 1984 and I was on summer break. I was a huge Yngwie fan from Steeler and Alcatrazz. It's hard to believe now but Alcatrazz was making an appearance at the local mall at a clothing store of all places (The Broadway) in Riverside CA. I overslept and thought, "I have to go meet Yngwie!" I ran to the mall, arriving out of breath, to approach Alcatrazz at a table with absolutely no one there. Just them and me. I look around - no Yngwie. Graham Bonnet says, "Hey meet our new guitar player, Steve Vai." I had no idea who he was, so I kinda reluctantly shook his hand. I got all their autographs and left. That night they played at the De Anza Theater and the crowd kept chanting "YNGWIE!" during Vai's solos. I felt bad for him that night, but his career took off from there. The next time I saw him in person was at the filming of David Lee Roth's "Yankee Rose" music video.

Dang Billy does not let Steve finish a sentence

I'll say this for Billy - He sure knows how to make an interview about him.

"They make you compete with you" was such a great way to put it, and very humble.

Listen to how Billy explains to Vai how Vai plays guitar.

I think that was a really beautiful way to say that. “Compete with the best of yourself.”

One of the greatest moments in the history of rock n roll when Vai and Malmsteen exchanging guitar playing, shredding, chops and much more. Amazing!

Love the fact that Steve, being one of the greatest and most original/influential guitar players ever is able to be so humble and give credit where credit is due. I think like any instrument, it isn't about who is the best as it is almost impossible to gauge, maybe on technical skills but about who has influenced your life/playing the most.

"It's on youtube somehow..." billy my guy everything is on youtube
