I cannot thank you enough - after all the books and classes and courses these 2 series are the quintessence of everything I needed to know and become aware
Did you ever look at something you have scrubbed before, use it because it looked clean then looked at it in a good light and realized that it had a lot of residue in the crevices that you had never seen before? Entering my first year after retiring from the workforce, I felt I finally had time to spend journaling, and watching YouTubes to recover from my past. It worked. I felt good. Now, halfway into my second year, I started listening to John Bradshaw's YouTubes. I feel like he is helping me identify the debris in the crevices that I had not even thought to address. He gets down deep and I like it.
18:01 Instead of "honor thy mother and father", what about "unless you become like little children, you shall not enter the kingdom." A child honors their parent by expressing anger. That shows that you have sired a human being and not a vegetable.
21:25 The Crisis of the family is not telling the truth. It's the lies. In order to get well is to get out of that. To embrace the feelings. Working out that shame.
32:34 Example of people in religion who use groups as codependency.
34:40 The Recovery Part of this video. Recovery is a process, not an event. Guilt is the veneer of codependency. Shame empowers addiction.
The 2 parts of recovery: 1) Grief process. 2) Forgiveness (it works on phases)
41:29 Phase #1.Recognize that there was wrong done to us. Phase #2.Recognize that we had feelings about the problem. (Just recognizing them, not feeling them yet.)
47:32 Phase #3.Embracing the feelings. Making them as big as they are. When we do this, we are embracing ourselves.
49:09 Phase #4. Learning to share out feelings with others. (Examples: imagining it, role playing) Writing is just a clarification. It is not really dealing with the feeling itself.
51:29 Phase #5. Make a decision on what I'm going to do with the relationship.
53:24 Phase #6. Sense of acceptance and serenity about the hurt and about the relationship.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted - Matthew 5:4
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it. - Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
It was inappropriate for him to spend time talking alot about AA 12 steps.. in the twelve traditions it says "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films."
That said, thank you for this excellent series of lectures.
