For those outside Scotland, "Wee Free" is a nickname for one of the Presbyterian churches in Scotland, the Free Church of Scotland, his name is a joke aimed at that.

I live in Sheffield but I was born and brought up in Glasgow. I remember celebrating Hogmanay and I remember Rikki Fulton as the Rev I M Jolly in 'Last Call'. It wouldn't have been Hogmanay without Rikki or the tug boats and the wee puffers on the Clyde sounding their whistles at midnight; my mum would throw open the window so we could all hear. Those were the days when the yards were working and the Queen Elizabeth II was still on the slipway under construction. And now it's all gone. What a waste. Paul (72) Sheffield.

He is an all time great comedian. I watched scotch and wry every hogmanay the jokes and sketches were superb. Gone but never forgotten r.i.p.rikki.
