The EuroAirport Basel- Mulhouse-Freiburg has two sides too, a EU- and a Swiss side (BSL + MLH + EAP).

Sadly, I remember the Basel gate agent and having to get a ticket. I remember the train conductors with the red bag, the ticket puncher. In other words : I'm old.

Freut mich als Schweizer, das dir die Züge gefallen. Ja. Ich fahre auch sehr gerne mit ihnen. Die gleiche Strecke von Basel nach Zürich. Leider auf Kosten der älteren extrem ikonischen Züge. Aber man kann ja nicht alles haben.

2:40 I see a BR 101 with the Eurocity coaches including the panorama car. It's sad those services are now gone, riding on them along the Rhine valley was one of my best rail experiences.

As a commuter in the Zürich area, impatient and always in a hurry type of people we are, I really like this train, apart from two very annoying points:

One would be the extremely loud and obnoxious noise announcing the closing of the doors, which is a total disaster and gets on everybody's nerves majorly. There are other, much less intrusive and more agreeable sounds that are just as noticeable that could've been used. No idea why Stadler did not come up with something better there. Maybe it's a country people/city people issue, if a train stops every 20 or 30 minutes, you don't really mind, but if the train stops every 3 to 5 minutes, it's a big problem. You see lots of people rolling their eyes every time.

The other issue, also very Zürich specific, yes, of course, that the doors don't open fast enough.😂😂

But hey, we're complaining at a very high level here. The trains are fantastic. The noise though, is a crime. This could easily be done much better without violating some regulations that forced Stadler to add these noises. But really, they should have done some research. Passenger comfort seems to be a big issue, but comfort is not only sitting comfortably, comfort is also how little or how much stress your environment causes you. The same way seats and colors are picked carefully, noises should be selected carefully too. NVH.

We're very fortunate, that we can be nitpicking about such manner issues, thank you for the great review.

I like the 512, too, as I do the Giruno, and for much of the same reasons you mentioned. Thanks! A few hiccups: You mixed up East and West in the Basel station, the view you show is not from the main footbridge, but from the Eastern one, IR trains are not a regional trains in Switzerland (as they shouldn't be, as inter means between - looking at you, Germany), and you better hope Basel-Landschaft doesn't notice that you returned it to Basel-Stadt. :)

I haven't ridden them yet, but those trains are very similar to the Caltrain Stadler KISS. I know it's the same company. I like them.

As a Swiss person, I absolutely LOATHE this train.

On my train from Visp to Geneva on Sunday I had my suitcase stolen from the luggage rack whilst we were stopped at Sion station, be vigilant

I went on the exact same train ride last Sunday and pretty much agree with everything :) I just always wish there was more luggage space (or that people would consider to at least try and put their luggage between or underneath the seats). I quite like that most of the seats are elevated in a way where you can actually fit quite a large suitcase or bag underneath and there are some parts of the train that are well designed for families are disabled people (as I'm not disabled myself, I don't want to presume though, just from an outside perspective it seems like it).
