Hungarian is one of Europe's strangest languages, with no close relatives except two small Siberian peoples. But if the language came from the east, why do modern Hungarians look genetically Central European?

In this video we decode the DNA history of Hungary, from the Conquering Hungarians who rode into the Carpathian Basin in 895 AD to modern Hungarians today. Ancient DNA reveals the conquerors were a small immigrant elite made of roughly 50% Mansi-like Uralic ancestry, 33% Sarmatian-like Iranian ancestry, and 15% Hun/Xiongnu-linked ancestry. We break down the famous N3a father line found in 37.5% of conqueror men, the R1a line of King Bela III and the Arpad dynasty, and why both Asian lines are now rare in Hungary.

You will learn how the Magyars formed in Etelkoz and Levedia, what Friar Julian found in Magna Hungaria, how locals, Slavs, Avars, Germans and Romans absorbed the conquerors, and why the Hungarian language won while the conqueror bloodline mostly faded.

If you have Hungarian roots, where is your family from? The Great Plain, Transdanubia, the north, or Hungarian communities in Transylvania, Slovakia, Serbia or elsewhere? And did your DNA results surprise you? Tell us in the comments.
