Scabies is a microscopic mite that burrows into skin, causing intense itching and red bumps—especially in skin folds, armpits, groin, hands, feet. Spread through close contact or contaminated linens (hotels, hospitals, shared beds). Early signs: persistent itch over days, few red bumps that multiply slowly, household member with similar symptoms. Treatment: permethrin cream or ivermectin tablets, hot-water laundry for all fabrics. Post-scabetic itch may occur from dead mites triggering immune response—treated with steroids. Wholly treatable if caught early.
