Mike Amadeo: "la salsa se GESTÓ en Alegre Records" | Salserísimo Perú

In the heart of the Bronx, at 786 Prospect Avenue, a historic place survives where time seems to have stood still: Casa Amadeo.
Behind its counter, Don Miguel Ángel “Mike” Amadeo continues his work. At 92 years old, he is one of the very few living witnesses who can say with absolute certainty, “I was there.”
Long before Fania Records conquered the world, the sound of our music was already being forged in the jam sessions of Al Santiago’s Alegre Records label, in dance halls, and on street corners of a New York that no longer exists. Mike was not only the composer of immortal classics like “De ti depende” (Héctor Lavoe) and “Poniendo el grito en el cielo” (El Gran Combo), but also a personal friend and key link to giants like Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco, Eddie Palmieri, Celia Cruz, and Willie Colón.
In this special journey from Salserísimo Perú, we step through the doors of New York's oldest Latin music store to talk with a true living legend and relive the memories of an unrepeatable era.
