A little update - the 6 nuts are now obsolete. You are supposed to only use the thread extensions from now on. The kit now also contains an extended bolt for the ground strap.
In was able to install two of these without needing to disconnect the ecu harnesses. There is plenty of room to maneuver it out of the way to slip the shield in under it.
I completely relocated my ECM and got it out of that ridiculous location . I cut and extended the 2 connectors wire trunks .. installed it under the passenger side windshield compartment in front of the cabin filter housing. To put a definite end to all this insanity.
Some of these plates are advertised as made with bakelite. Use of this product could be hazardous to your health. Bakelite is made with famaldyhide, and phenol as the main ingredients. You may want to Wear a Mask when opening to a hot engine bay. Opt for a different material if you're going to install one of these kits.
FYI: Formaldehyde is a highly toxic systemic poison that is absorbed well by inhalation. The vapor is a severe respiratory tract and skin irritant and may cause dizziness or suffocation. Contact with formaldehyde solution may cause severe burns to the eyes and skin.
The ECU is installed on the exhaust manifold, which is filled with cold air from the intercooler. I think this plate is of little use. The only thing that makes sense is to saw ventilation holes on the engine cover. Then there will be an upward flow (convection) of air near the ECU.
Hello, congratulations for your work. Great video and very well explained. I did the same with my ECU (and having a video like yours would have been a great help) and as it was still giving some heat failure I added a fan connected to the chassis of the car that I turn on with a switch from inside the vehicle. Although I lowered the failure rate a lot, it is still giving some failures. I think my ECU was already in a very sensitive state to temperatures by the time I wanted to remedy the problem. I would like to ask you if you know where I can get a replacement part or if there is a reputable ECU repair company you can recommend. Thanks a lot for your work and videos.
IT still hot.Why you do not used AL. heat sink plate and move ECU.near air intake right side by cut 5wires and connect longer .So ECU. will more cool...
