The PS2’s library is absolutely bonkers, even twenty years later. I can think of about fifty games off the top of my head that could be considered top ten material, that’s how insane this library is. 2001 alone had Grand Theft Auto III, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Devil May Cry, Ico, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Silent Hill 2, Gran Turismo 3, and Jak & Daxter, a selection of games most consoles would kill to have over a single year.

On the topic of Persona 4 being more of a PS2 or Vita game, it should be noted that the original PS2 version was one of the games digitally re-released on PS3, and is likely what people bought if they caught the P4G hype but didn't have a Vita. Along with P3 and other SMT games like Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne, thats where the SMT games started gaining momentum before P5 came out iirc

I did not expect Kingdom Hearts II to beat out freaking MSG3 for number 1 but absolutely not disappointed lol. KHII is my favorite game of all time and I'm glad it topped the list.

Also, KHII is the 13th best-selling PS2 game. NOMURA!!!

Putting the list into perspective, 700 games Is More than the entre GameCube's library

I find it hard to believe that Ash never knew that Lori Alan voiced both Pearl and The Boss when his dad was very likely friends with her for years.

Jak & Daxter and the Precursor Legacy is legitimately one of my all time favorite games. I replay it and Pikmin 1 every other year or so, I've gotten 100% on both 10ish times

It's a testament to the depth and quality of the PS2's library that neither Suikoden III nor V (the latter of which actually made my own top ten ballot) even made the top 100, and I can count on one hand the number of games in this video where I'd say it's a bit silly that they're here and Suikoden isn't.

So happy FFX made top 3. X was probably the first serious non-Pokemon RPG I ever played and it was like having an epiphany of what storytelling in games could be. I was used to reaching the sign post or the flag pole, and I didn’t think much at the time of stuff like Ratchet & Clank, but FFX was probably the moment I actually started viewing narrative as something important to games as much as gameplay was. The Sphere Grid is also easily my favorite FF progression system

I have commented it before, but as a kid seeing footage of Jak 1 blew my mind. Going from Crash Bandicoot something about the sheer bright, cozy, and colorful vibe of this game felt like it was THE definitive 3D platformer collectathon. Like we had already reached peak. And while many great 3D platformers have obviously come out since, I still hold that Jak 1 is the posterchild. It is easily on my top 10 as well.

PS2 was such a big part of my teenage/early twenties years. Fond memories!

I dont comment super often, but just wanted to say how much i love this series! I think its super fun and always looking forward to the next one!

I knew Dragon Quest 8 wouldn't make the top 10, but it's lovely to see it come in as high as 14.

I'm glad maximo got a mention.

It’s important to remember for everyone that, while there were a ton of responses, this is still a biased sample since most respondents are people prone to following GVG. Therefore, it may not be indicative of a random sample of all PS2 owners. This goes for every survey here, but especially when dealing with the best selling console of all time with an absolutely massive game library. With that out of the way, great video GVG. I love this whole series of best games of all time, can’t wait to see the results of the more modern consoles

It doesn't help that this was the last generation of Playstation region locking-there's a VERY large number of games that were japan only that honestly deserve a place on the top 100, if not the top 10, considering the Final Mix of Kingdom Hearts 2 and 1 were both available for that console, just not for the west. RIP Shadow Hearts Covenant, RIP DIsgaea 2. RIP the Onimusha trilogy, RIP the Ar tonelico duology on PS2, rip the FIVE Atelier games the west got, RIP the four or five 2D Tales of Games that were JPN only, RIP the MANY other JRPGs missing from the list, that are on my wall. Great video guys.

Thank you for dropping this before the NS2 Direct, something worth watching to pass the time.

RIP Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

To anyone wondering what Sphinx is, imagine classic 3D Zelda, but Egyptian Mythology themed. Amazing game and soundtrack too.

Can I just say how much I've been thoroughly enjoying these videos!
