RIP Val Kilmer. This was the first movie I ever saw him in and it will always be my favorite!

The final "prank" was very appropriate for this channel...

I graduated high school in '85. Saw this in the theater, and what stcks with me to this day is hearing Tears For Fears incredible song, and wondering what life was going to hold for me.
Forty years later, and this movie continues to have relevance on multiple levels, and my younger brother and my friends can still throw out the classic one-liners the way they're throwing popcorn around during the final scene.
This was a real treat of a reaction video to watch. Thanks so much...!

This is by far the best 1980s nerd film. Other films laughed at nerds, but this movie laughed with the nerds and celebrated them. You really must watch Top Secret for more of Val Kilmer's comedic timing; it is much broader than this, but very much still worthwhile.

Love how the introduction of the movie is so seemingly random, but upon rewatch you realize that its chronicling mans development of weapons of wear from the simple stone and sling and atel atel to modern(for the times) weaponry. All while the song "you took advantage of me" plays. Such a solid flick from start to finish. Love the react!

The producers extensively researched the film by talking to students at technical universities and researching pranks that had been done (like the one at MIT where they put the police car on the roof of the admin. bldg.). And the laser technology was designed by the great Ron Cobb, who created legit looking machinery for films such as "Alien", "Star Wars" and "Back to the Future". And who's more fun than Michelle Meyrink, who played Jordan. She did a few classic films around this time ("Valley Girl", "Revenge of the Nerds", etc.) and then left acting. A loss to the rest of us.

One of my favorite films,. and one of the three most personally influential movies of my teen years (the others were "Wargames" and "Ferris Bueller".) I got to meet and get Val's autograph in 2019 - I had him sign a production photo from a deleted scene between him and Michelle Meyrink. He was the warmest, intensely kind presence I'd encountered. I kept things short, he wasn't in great health, but did tell him I admired the work he'd done on behalf of literacy. His handshake, which he insisted on giving despite my being reluctant about his health, lingers still. Absolute gen of a human being.

Well we now know who would have played Deadpool if the character had existed in the 80's

Thumbs up for asking "is it Narnia?" when Hollyfeld first disappears into the closet. Chef's kiss!❤❤❤

We have more than enough movies with jocks and soldiers, we need more like this. Smart people rock.

One of the greatest 80s movie soundtracks ever

This was such a unique movie, especially for the time it came out. Completely Atypical, incredibly smart and intelligent individuals portrayed as their own kind of misfits within their own circles. Nothing too on the nose either

By far a hidden gem. So nice seeing someone appreciate it!

Other than the “liquid nitrogen” being solid the science in the movie is accurate. The radiative state coupling to the ground system is actually how lasers work. Originally this move was to be another Revenge of the Nerds spinoff. This is such a better movie, and I prefer its more intellectual and fun side than the TnA that Nerds gave us.

I went to a Tech School. We had student offices in old steam tunnels. Pranks that made it onto Alien Mysteries TV show as real things. Our campus had regular explosions going off for experiments. Back in the 70’s they had honest to god beer trucks for the homecoming celebration and they didn’t really check ID’s. I’ve seen impressive dorm rooms furnished entirely with milkcrates (it had bunk beds made with milkcrates). Tech schools back in the 80’s were the best.

Fun fact: Jordan was the inspiration for the character of Gadget Hackwrench on Disney's "Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers".

The montage sequence is an art form unto itself, and this movie has two which are perfect examples, and the songs they're set to ("I'm Falling" by Comsat Angels and "Number One" by Chaz Jenkel) are perfectly utilized.
