HOW PEOPLE LIVE IN COOBER PEDY | Half The Town Lives Underground | 4K Documentary
Half the people of Coober Pedy live underground. In the middle of the Australian desert, where the air hits 45°C in the shade, families carve their homes, churches and even a hotel out of solid rock, and a new bedroom can come with a seam of opal in the wall.
This documentary goes down into the opal capital of the world: the boy who discovered opal in 1915 while he was supposed to be minding camp, miners from more than 40 countries, dugout homes that stay at 24°C all year, a golf course with no grass, road signs warning you not to walk backwards, the 17,000-carat Olympic Australis opal, the spaceship Hollywood left behind, and a town that is slowly growing old.
