Bonus Thing! The Barton line is an oddity because it's one of the few places where you have to change trains TWICE if you want to travel to London.  (e.g at Habrough AND Doncaster/Lincoln ). Where else on the network can you NOT get to London with just one change of train ... ?

Manual crossings at Sleaford, Heckington, Huberts Bridge and Rauceby on the Poacher Line.

There's a manual gate at Huberts Bridge near Boston and another on the same line (assumption) further up towards skeggy in Sibsey.

The line used to be much busier because it served the Humber Ferry, which is why it escaped Beeching

9:40 Ty Croes station on Anglesey is definitely worth a visit. Request stop + manual crossing gate + mechanical signal box + beautiful remote Welsh countryside

Elsenham station on the west anglia mainline still has a guy that walks the gates across the road every time.

I know a guard for EMR based at Lincoln, who semi-regularly works this line. He said he has only ever seen one person get on or off at Thornton Abbey. He said he has seen this one person on many occasions but never anyone else

Im so happy so be a member! It's one of the best purchases I make every month. It's been 8 months since I became one and I'll be honest a lot of Geoff's content has got me through some very bad times, like VERY bad times.

1:10 a few EMR 171s are ex southern units that would've operated from ashford international to brighton and on the uckfeild line in sussex, they still have the southern interiors and one is still waiting for an EMR livery. so somewhere up north theres a southern DMU a little lost.

There are some random level crossings with no barriers. South Pembrokeshire is full of them.Might be interesting for you.

On a mad day in 1975, I used my Rail Rover ticket to travel on ten trains and the Hull-New Holland ferry on the same day. Starting in Leicester my first destination was York and then it was Hull and finally Grimsby, before returning back to Leicester. Looking at the map, I would have travelled through Thornton Abbey but was blissfully unaware of that until I saw this video. Later I ran between the (then) two stations in Lincoln to catch my connection but the train from Lincoln to Nottingham was a fraction late and I watched as the train back to Leicester pulled out. I have never done anything as remotely daft since then!
