I always get so emotional whenever I hear it. Penelope wasn't just waiting for love. She was waiting for "you", specifically Odysseus only.

What I really love is Odysseus saying "I am not your kind and gentle husband" in the gentlest way ever, also repeatedly calling out her name in such a loving way, like damn dude😭💕💗

Honestly, it’s not even the lyrics that usually make me cry - the instrumental at the end is JUST. SO. POWERFUL. And just makes you feel so so much after finishing the whole journey with him

Such a beautiful piece of music for the reunion of Penelope and Odysseus. A sign no matter how long it’s been, they will always love each other

In the last song if you count from when she starts saying “waiting” it last for a whole 20seconds for the amount of time he has been gone

You can hear the motifs for "Ruthlessness" "Thunder Bringer" and "I'm not sorry for loving you" while Ody explains to Penelope what he did to get back home to her. Undoubtedly the hardest parts of his journey.

There's much to love about this song, but how it incorporates the instruments that most touched him and changed him will forever be one of my favorite things. In the second stanza. "Left a trail of red in every island (ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves), as I traded friends like objects I could use (thunder bringer), hurt more lives than I can count on my hands (there's no price he won't pay). And obviously, that gorgeous ending with Just a Man in triplets and a full orchestra (piano, trompets, strings and other instruments) will always get me emotional

Ive listened to this more times than i can count and it STILL makes me cry every single time. This is easily my favorite song in the whole musical. All the motifs brought in while he tells his story, hearing Penelope match his anger and intensity, hearing his desperation while she sings waiting and hes calling her name, it all works in perfect harmony to pull tears every time

That music at the beginning, where every instrument calls out her name with him ! The longing makes me cry before hearing them 😢😢😢

I've listened to this musical a dozen times and watched just as many reactions, and yet I still bawl my eyes out every time

7:03 for me it s so sad cause i feel like she knows him so well ! She knows that it going to eat him up , that he s going to have nightmares … the guilt … the madness … she KNOWS it s not gonna be easy to heal knowing he s the guy she fell in love with ! She didnt have to get angry or to do anything she just has to be there for him while him going through hell to heal 😢

I saw someone else's comment about this song somewhere else that blew my mind, so I thought I'd share.

So we know Odysseus has worries and fears about if Penelope will still accept him at the beginning of this song, and wonders if after 20 years and the ways that he's changed if she could still love him, right? The last 3 titles of this saga hint to the same worries coming from Penelope's POV, because they write out: "Odysseus, I can't help but wonder, would you fall in love with me again?" 😭😭😭

I don't know if that was intentional or not, but so much is in this musical, I'm choosing to believe it is.

this song is very sensitive, deep, sofisticated... it's not only "hey my love i'm back from war i spent 20 years on it, let's start our days again" no no, it's "you still love me???"
