Thorne admitted concealing Elsie’s body but insisted he had found her dead after she took her own life. Prosecutors told a darker story: a failing engagement, another woman and a calculated murder.

In the aftermath of WW1 I think there would have been a real imbalance between bachelors and spinsters. At that time, and in those circumstances, Elsie would not have had many options whereas Norman would. It’s sad but seemingly common that an announcement of a pregnancy out of wedlock led to murder.

I remember this one; one of the cops said “it was the stupidest thing he could have done because he told us exactly where to dig” or something like that. He very much kept trying to stop them from digging in the chicken run as this was part of the Black Museum radio program, the broken glasses were the main thing to start the case.

Do I need my eyes checking..? Elsie was really beautiful? What on earth are others seeing?! As for being ‘older’.. I think she looks considerably younger!
Menstrual cycles weren’t spoken of back then, not like they are today. You were expected to have them once a month, almost like clockwork, no one spoke about the fact they can be late for a multitude of reasons (stress, exhaustion, etc). It’s very common women mistook being late as a sign they were pregnant, when often they weren’t, so I wouldn’t use that against her. Perhaps it’s something we will never know.
What he did was just horrific, to butcher her like that.. put her poor parents through that distress.. what an evil individual.

Why do I have a feeling it was all about the money, she lost her job, he lost interest in her, but got interested in a dressmaker with a stable income. How cruel to come up with excuse 'she was depressed, she killed herself so I dismembered her body out of desperation'. I wonder how a dressmaker felt about all situation being potentially the next in line...
