The branchline which connected the towns of Buckfastleigh and Totness to the network from the mainline down to Plymouth, was, back I the day, run by the Great Western Railway. British Railways gave up on the line but the locals did not. Nowadays the heritage railway provides a great day out for enthusiasts and families, with the offer of fantastic GWR locos, great views of the River Dart, stations, cafes and the excellent railway museum at Buckfastleigh.

Thanks for sharing.I came down to the South Devon Railway end of July. What a great line and I walked to Buckfast Abbey ,I had lunch just outside the Abbey ,in the little farm shop and cafe as no queues 😊

Hi Warren, Great video, brought back many memories including one of me on the footplate of 6412 at Buckfastleigh when I was knee high to a grasshopper!! Lovely carraige for the driver, I bet they loved using that.

Arrived at Totnes by bus with every intention of visiting the railway. We were unable to find any signage pointing us to the railway and none of the locals we asked were able to help. It was a really hot day and we obviously set off in the wrong direction and eventually gave up.
