Oh my god, grow up, a gay couple didn't ruin the show or had anything to do with its quality. This miserable mindset is the reason why it's so hard to take any RWBY critic seriously these days...

Tbh the problem with Blang for me is that they're  just... bland. Blake and Yang saw their worst people in each other (Adam and Raven) that they feel that they can fix this time to feed each other's broken complexes.  Their chemistry is genuinely only tied to how Blake is the Raven that will never leave and Yang being the Adam that obeyed. They barely were involved with each other's arcs or barely bond beyond that tbh. And knowing RT they ninja dodge every single realistic and even PERSONAL conflcit Blang has and concider them as true love and a possible paragon of Faunus-Human relations thus part of the good whenever the Gods will judge them.

No one would actually mind Blang if there was genuine chemistry or if they were heavily involved with each other's big arcs. Instead we have Sun and Weiss be their benchwarmers where they got no more problems with their own arcs once they get together.

Also it's mostly because Arryn (Blake's VA) wanted the ship badly and everyone else orbiting her demanding it until it exists upon itself.

"Are you homophobic because you hate Bumblebee? Or do you hate Bumblebee because you're homophobic? Whatever the case, I've already decided that I hate Bumblebee. Now its just a matter of doing the best I can to justify that."

~ Geto if he watched RWBY probably

A not insignificant number of people decided that Sun deserved better than Blake anyway

I’ll say this. My reason why I don’t like bumblebee. It’s a lackluster WLW ship. The fact that Adam gets turned into an abusive ex instead of a wise master led astray by his corrupt quest for power. He’s mad at Blake for being with Yang when I felt like he should have hated the fact Blake was friends with Weiss Schnee the very family and company that branded his face. Weiss and Blake’s dynamic would of been a better foil to Adam about how he views humanity and the schnees the perfect counter disproving him that humanity can be equal to the faunas and Weiss as a Schnee isn’t like her father. Sun had a better dynamic and relationship with Blake compared to Yang. there’s also the fact Yang chose Blake over Ruby when Ruby needed her sister the most. Yang raised Ruby she was the surrogate mother figure for her little sister and was the one who had to grow up fast easing her when their father was a husk of a man after summer died. Like my wife said to me “if anyone who grew up with an older sister knows that the eldest sister is the 2nd mother in the family and helps raise the younger siblings. And the eldest sister would do their damn best to try and protect and comfort their younger sibling carrying that burden.” She speaks from experience with her relationship with her own eldest sister. The only good thing about bumblebee being canon was the funny ruby homophobic memes that lasted a week and people got creative. I’ve seen both straight and gay RWBY fans and even RWBY haters join together for a temporary peace on the memes.

Honestly Bumblebee ruin the whole sister dynamic for team RWBY that I think the creator intended purpose.

Man, I just miss when yang was the sunny-dispositioned, boisterous big sister of the group that especially loved her little half-sister.

Before I get too deep into the video, I just wanna explain why I personally always thought Bumblebee was 'ehh' at best.

Yang "Abandonment Issues" Xiao Long gets together with the dark-haired, anti-social swordswoman with a criminal background whose first instinct is to run away from everyone she cares about the second things get bad. And she only starts having 'romantic' feelings for her after she literally abandons her at her most vulnerable moment. Blake is quite literally a watered-down version of Yang's mother, except a Faunus and having moral reasons for being a criminal.

And while Blake's issues aren't as blatant, the fact that after she gets over the crazed man with anger issues and a grudge against the world, she immediately starts dating the girl with anger issues whose trauma buttons she played like she was Beethoven and their newest toxic relationship was her Fifth Symphony.

Don't get me wrong, I love Yuri as much as the next guy, but when everything I know about these characters can be (reductively) boiled down to "Anger issues and hates being abandoned" and "Abandons people and has a terrorist ex with anger issues", I think there needs to be a lot of development on both sides for them to be compatible.

The worst part is that this dynamic could absolutely work, Blake learning to hold her ground and make the best of things because she won't be the one to prove Yang's deepest fears correct would be amazing writing.

But no. For Bumblebee to be made, they had to completely defang Yang and Blake so that it could work.

the sun section made me realise that despite everyone making their own RWBY rewrites, this is the time i've seen someone wanting to give sun's team more screen time. i like it.

in conclussion, CRWBY are uncreative hacks that don't care about characters that weren't theirs to begin with and who are definitely scared of their fans (there's a whole fandom rant i could go on but that's not important.) or they are profitting from stringing them along, because if they had another volume lined up, the V9 won't happen. if volume 10 flops, i want then to internatize that every single thing that led to this point was their own doing.

The problem with Bumblebee:
1. It undermines the characters involved in the ship;
  1.a. Blake is no longer the freedom fighter with a complicated past having to deal with the consequences of what she ran away from, now she's just the lesbian girlfriend;
  1.b. Yang is no longer the "shoot first, ask questions later" fun-loving mother of the group having to face the new reality that she has lost a part of herself that is never coming back, now she's just the lesbian girlfriend Nº2.

2. It undermines he situations they're in, as they need to divorce themselves from the events they are currently facing to make it all about their relationship;
 2.a. Being chased by a group of monsters that can suck out your will to live? Gotta hold hands;
 2.b. Being stuck in a parallel world of fairy tail and forced to face your inner demons? Better officialize that we're a couple now;
 2.c. Having to fight the leader of the terrorist organization that destroyed your school and cut your arm off? Better make it out to be a love triangle where the lesbians stab the toxic ex-boyfriend.

3. It undermines their relationships with the other characters, especially Ruby and Sun;
 3.a. Yang acts motherly over Ruby, trying to get her to make friends on her own and even chastising Crow for making dirty jokes around her, both because Yang was the only one who ever got to experience having mothers between the two of them and as a form of atonement for having put her baby sister in danger when she tried looking for Raven. Now Yang won't even pay attention to Ruby's descent into despair and depression that eventually led her to commit suicide with a magical tea because she's too busy being lesbian!;
 3.b. Sun chased Blake because he had utmost trust in her that she would take on the White Fang all by herself, and once he realized she was running away forced her to face the reality that doing so would only make things worse and helped her grow by giving her the courage she needed to face her deepest fears - Blake became a better person because of Sun believed in her when she herself couldn't. Now we just kick Sun out of the cast permanently because she needs to be lesbian, and having a character with whom she has infinitely better chemistry with would be a hindrance, so he has to let her go and even say "it was never about that" as a handwave to the audience DESPITE THEIR FILRTING ON SCREEN FOR 4  WHOLE VOLUMES!

4. The toxic part of the fanbase (which is most of it, nowadays) labels critics as "Homophobes" for pointing out writing inconsistencies and let downs with the executions of their relationship, even if you argue that if the writers really wanted to make a better written lesbian relationship between two of the main four girls, Ruby and Weiss are there! Criticizing Bumblebee gets you labeled as a homophobic and nothing you say, no amount of evidence you provide and no quality alternatives you provide will ever reach their brains because you just spoke against the "message."

5. There was a much better alternative that I already pointed out - White Rose! Ruby and Weiss started not being able to stand each other, had to learn to respect each other's perspective in life and accept the position they were placed in the team despite each initially wanting to be in each other's shoes, Ruby had to learn to be a leader and Weiss had to learn to play a supporting role and eventually grew close enough to hang out by themselves and play off each other's personalities and quirks naturally. All they needed was one extra step for them to be in a healthy romantic relationship. But you can't have that because Bumblebee distorts everyone's minds into sucking its dick off while much better alternatives exist!

Remember when RWBY was about cool fights?

You know what would have been a far more compelling WLW ship for RWBY?
Ruby herself and Penny. The weapon nerd (not that they even fucking remembered that was a character trait of hers most of the time) and the living weapon.
The initial spark is there, but there's also an actual arc, some some shit both of them have to overcome, Penny needing to learn to assert her personhood and, this version of Ruby would likely also need to learn to respect that.

I haven’t finished the video yet but i always found it funny that Blake gives Nora the advice of discovering who she is as an individual away from relationships, when Blake’s almost entirely influenced by Adam, Sun, and Yang; while her call to action moments in her time of self reflection are entirely started by Sun and Yang. Truly, if anyone needed to be single to rediscover their own voice and motivate their own sense of agency, it should’ve been Blake! Nora and Ren being close really hasn’t harmed any of Nora’s other dynamics with people or taken away her own standpoints. She’s literally bickering with Ren because they have their own opinions on the situation. I’m glad she got a bit of growth but I think we could’ve done any other route aside from, “she’s not ready for a relationship.” Unironically, Nora might be the only young adult in this show well rounded and adjusted enough to date somebody. The only other main character that comes close is Weiss! 😅

To this day, I don't understand how Miles and Kerry managed to stand out as the ones to go with to spearhead *THE BIG ONE*.

I was a teenager when RWBY came out, and even then I was pulling my hair out about the quality of the writing.

I'm now in my late 20s and I have read dozens of fanfictions showcasing what RWBY could have been. I still think about it, I still write about it. I will never reclaim the part of my brain that is constantly thinking about Remnant.

I'll never forgive them for doing this to me.

I was always wanted to see Blake and Sun together. They spent more time together, went on an adventure together, and Sun even met Blake’s parents. The Yang/Blake ship just came out of nowhere. And I’m like “What the heck just happened!”.

Haven't watched the video yet but I'll explain my two main reasons why Bumblebee always rubbed me the wrong way.

Number 1: Is probably the most obvious and milquetoast reason, while the BlackSun ship wasn't my favorite thing in the world Sun and Blake were genuinely really cute together at times, and while it doesn't mean he's owed a relationship from it, the fact Sun has been almost exclusively supporting Blake throughout her entire story, having basically done everything but fight Adam with her, and the fact Sun (who has been a rather important and prominent character up till now, since the last episodes of 2013's very first volume) is basically written out of the story and swapped out with Yang, it's just a disservice to both of them because it not only reinforces the notion Suns time with Blake didn't matter, but that Yang and Sun are entirely interchangeable with eachother as well... Sun is basically if Yang Xiao Long got a genderbend personality wise tbf.

Number 2: And this is by FAR more prominent and disturbing, Yangs feelings for Blake seem to only manifest after the fact she assumes she abandoned her, much like her mother Raven did, adding to the fact Blake volume 1-3ish is fairly "gothic" and "standoffish" and "brooding" much like I'm sure the descriptions of her mother from Tai overlap in her mind... You start to realize Yang is likely projecting a very strange, toxic, and selfdestructive Oedipus complex fetish onto an unassuming Blake, essentially using her to cope with her abandonment and mommy issues, and that's... Sick-

Alrighty I'm watching now, if you happen to touch on any of the above I'll be sure to leave a little edit.

Gosh I'll NEVER forget the lyrics of armed and ready and how I always thought how disgusting it was that it was for Blake and NOT Ruby, you know her ONLY sister

1:17:37 - 'Trying to please people instead of fixing issues'

It's a bit more complicated than that. Rather, the writers are trying to fix things to prove critics of the show are wrong. They seem to write in the direction that reacts to the audience and they have been relying on parasocial relationships to say they care. Even with Viz Media managing their socials, they still do that by letting their VAs hawk about Volume 10 being greenlit instead of actually having fun with their own characters.

It's their tactic that skews the story that makes you feel what they want you to feel. The writers have removed Faunus issues from Vol. 7-8 due to backlash, the volumes set in Atlas, which happen to be the most racist place in remnant for even using slave labour in their nation. They made Cinder do more killing of people to ensure she didn't have a change of heart after her backstory was shown and her dealings with Watts. I was chatting in the most vocal part of the audience and they went back at me for saying Ironwood was made worse in Vol 8, and Yang didn't really look out for Ruby. That part was the fandom, because other places have stopped talking about RWBY.

For evidence, RWBY Beyond was made with 10 episodes in mind, which then reduced to 4 because Rooster Teeth was shutting down back in 2024. They had an episode of Somewhat given a portal because of 'Vol 9 is filler' complaints, Sun and Mercury became comic relief in one episode by playing Junior Detectives, which they joked about 'too many characters'. But there was one episode where Yang spent time with Ruby to deny criticisms that she is a bad sister. Guess what? She took her to the Boba tea shop, and that was after Ruby drank tea in Vol. 9.

I've always thought that Blake and Yang would probably clash and argue with each other rather than getting together. They both just seem to have traits that the other would hate. Blake after being in an abusive relationship with someone who has violence inducing anger issues probably wouldnt want another person with violence inducing anger issues. I also think Yang's casual flirting that she used to do would probably be something Blake wouldnt like because of Adam's weird flirting/petnames.

I've always preferred Freezerburn and Ladybug because I feel like those pairings just made more sense.
