Yu Lianruo and Chu Jiuyin had been rivals their entire lives, never imagining that, in the end, their efforts would only serve someone else's interests. On the day the Emperor assumed personal rule, he produced an elderly palace maid—claiming she was his biological mother—and demanded that both Yu Lianruo and Chu Jiuyin relinquish their titles as Empress Dowager. Yu Lianruo wept; she had never expected that the son she raised with her own hands was not only an imposter but also intent on taking her life. Chu Jiuyin laughed; she had not foreseen this move by the Emperor, nor did she expect to meet her end via a cup of poisoned wine. Reborn, the two women returned to the time before the Emperor’s ascension; casting aside their past animosity, they resolved to turn the Great Qian Empire upside down. Want to be Emperor? In his dreams. They would alter the imperial edict directly—no amount of wailing or pleading would change the outcome.
