While it's reprehensible that he falsified his claim to have reached the summit - he probably saved his own life by turning around early - the outlook looked poor and he'd started too late to miss the storm coming in.  He should have just been honest and highlighted his attention to safety instead.

Happens all the time, especially with Everest.  The mountains will tell on your inexperience.
