Amphicar chemical Paint and rust removal from start to finish

Today I am chemically removing all the paint and rust off this Rare Amphibious Vehicle The Amphicar. I’m going to take you through the process we use to completely chemically strip cars down to bare metal. This is a more thorough alternative to sand/media blasting with no chances of metal warping on thin panels. This process shows you exactly what you are working with and gives you a blank canvis to work with!

It is a 3 step process

Step 1) alkaline degreaser and paint remover

Step 2) Food grade Rust removing acid

Step 3) Water based rust inhibitor

The total process takes around 6 weeks because we use environmentally safe chemicals.

When i lived in Sierra Leone (Africa) as a child back in the 60's there was one of these cars, we used to see it a lot, it was in a light blue, the Twin props always intrigued me as a child

Maybe I’m wierd but, I think it would be an awesome video showing how to maintain the tanks themselves. How do you get all the paint out of the bottom, how often, etc.

What a fantastic project with great video and description of what you were doing and why. The car appears to be a 1967 and been originally white. I have the same car here in Michigan and have owned it for many years. I am known by many people just because of this car. This is going to be a great project for the owner. Thanks for sharing your work.

The irony that it didn't just float on top of the baths!!!!
The paint just fell off, but it had done a great job of protecting the metal. That car is actually in great shape and it looks to be quite simple to replicate and replace the rusted out parts compared to most other cars.

Ive never seen one of these in person, but lots of pics and videos. So this is the most detail ive seen on one. Them fenderwells are massive.

I would really love to see the final result of the car restoration you showed us during the chemical cleaning Process.
Now all we see is a bare, often battered shell (don't get me wrong, it's very interesting to see your work).
Personally, I look up the models you cover to see how they look put together.

A friend of our family in Skaneateles NY had one of these in the '60s, painted"Bet You Can't CatchMe" red. He was known to make a mischievous spectacle of himself with his Amphibicar. This with our fire department's repurposed Army DUK were local floating celebrities: members of every village parade 😊

The sheet metal is of good quality, Made in Germany.
From the god old Time.😃
For being around 60 years old and probably exposed to a lot of water from above and below, the car still looks pretty good and will certainly be easy to restore since there's a lot of solid sheet metal and practically only straight sections need welding.
In Germany, these cars are even rarer than in the USA because they didn't fare as well here with the salt water and road salt in winter.
I'm happy to report that someone will be restoring a beautiful Amphicar.😍

Thats actually a pretty remarkable job the process does I was involved I. The Professional CommercialWoodworking Industry for over40 Years and we did Our own Finishing in House we had 4 CommercialTruck Paint Booths and I couldn’t imagine the OSHA regulations you guys must go through using the Chemicals and the Proper disposal of the old Automotive Paint that m use contain Alotbof of Lead and other Anti Enviormentally Friendly Materials My business was mostly working with new products we built not refinishing or stripping old products that made it easier to Adhere to Regulations when you guys are dealing with Vehicles of a certain age you know container Lead

That would be awesome if you can get some footage from when it's finally finished (although that'll take a pretty long time I imagine).
