Watch this video as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed secures a major domestic triumph, with federal troops marching into Mekelle and reclaiming the Tigrayan capital. Yet, even as Addis Ababa celebrates this military breakthrough, a profound geopolitical storm is brewing across the Horn of Africa. On the Egyptian coast, Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, and Somalia have united to sign the Alamein Declaration, forging a formidable regional bloc against Ethiopia’s vital interests in transboundary water rights and Red Sea access. Meanwhile, diplomatic relations with Asmara have completely collapsed following mutual embassy closures, and regional powers continue to lock horns over ongoing conflicts. Josh Barnes analyses how Prime Minister Abiy’s domestic victory has triggered unprecedented regional isolation on Firstpost Africa.

Meles the former interim pm of Ethiopia, Isayas, and Boutros Ghali, illegally gave all the coastline to Eritrea without the consent of Ethiopian people. Therefore, now Ethiopia has every right to question it because she has a Prime Minister who loves her

The denial from the Egyptian foreign minister is almost insulting to anyone who follows the region. Egypt's entire strategic doctrine is built around the Nile, and Ethiopia sits at its source. That's not paranoia — it's their own stated policy

Nothing is particularly new about Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan coordinating around their concerns with Ethiopia. We have seen similar regional alignments before, and they often lose momentum after a few weeks or months.

What is different this time is Ethiopia’s position. Despite the renewed conflict, Ethiopian government forces have made significant military gains, including retaking Mekelle. At the same time, Ethiopia’s economy recorded 9.2% growth in FY2024/25, according to the World Bank, while the IMF projects another 9.2% real GDP growth for 2026. (World Bank)

Ethiopia has endured, Ethiopia has prevailed, and Ethiopia will prevail again
No matter how much you bend it, polish it, or rewrite the narrative, you cannot blur the truth.
Truth does not whisper,it is written in bold, etched in history, and impossible to edit.

Dr. David,
It appears that you have aligned yourself with Ethiopia in this matter. Eritrea is not the country destabilizing the Horn of Africa. Rather, it is Ethiopia that has been seeking access to, or control over, Eritrean ports—whether through peaceful means or, if necessary, by force.

Furthermore, the information you have presented about Eritrea is misleading and inaccurate. It is important to examine the facts objectively and consider the broader historical and political context before making such claims.

Mr. David, I respectfully urge you to reconsider your position, verify the accuracy of the information you share, and avoid spreading misleading narratives about Eritrea. As someone commenting on such a sensitive regional issue, you have a responsibility to present a balanced and fact-based perspective rather than appearing to support one side without adequately considering the facts. I encourage you to approach this matter with fairness, objectivity, and respect for Eritrea’s sovereignty and the right of its people to determine their own future.

Somalia always offered commercial use of ports like Ethiopia does with Djibouti, but no sovereign owned sea or ports or naval base. Ethiopia wants no sea access it already has it wants beaches

Eritrea 🇪🇷 has nothing to do with the domestic conflict in Ethiopia its government has failed to secure its own citizens by choosing to serve to Rsf rebels that has committed crimes against civilians Dr David Matsangas statement is absurd, whether you like it or not Eritrea 🇪🇷 is a dominant force in the region.

The federal government have captured the city of Mekell multiple times in the past but couldn't secure pice. Infact it places the federal government in a bad position to be attacked and lose the war. No fight was there for the federal government to enter the city of Mekell. War is not a reclining that endes in 30 minutes. It is called strategical retreat. The so called Dr. Needs to do his homework. Why don't you invite from Eritrea and Ethiopia.
