Thank you for posting this as I have no choice but to do this myself.  Every mechanic wants 17 billion dollars to fix it and I’m just a little short on covering that.  I can’t even get my boys to school 3 miles away and back without stopping twice to add water.  I’d say I hope I succeed since I’ve never done any kind of invasive work on a vehicle, but failing is 100% not an option.

I just completed this exact same repair on my 2018 430i convertible, but didn’t see your video until after I completed my repair.  I wished I had seen your video first, spent about 6 hours trying to get that bottom bolt removed was the hardest part of the repair.  I did it also from the top but worried to change the socket from e10 to something tighter, didn’t want to strip the head off the bolt.  But your video would have given me more confidence to try a 5/18 instead.  I used the aluminum OFH and Flange on my repair, hoping to never needing to this repair on my car again.  I’m bruised and cut up trying to get that bottom bolt off, getting it on was easier.  I also replace the turbo relay line too as it too was leaking coolant.

Perfect timing… first time it failed I replaced it with a plastic one, it failed again, this time going with aluminum… but this time it mixed the oil and coolant in the reservoir 😭

Wow.... I'm impressed, this is the first video I have seen someone successfully get that bottom right bolt (first one you took out) without struggling from the bottom.   I just did this job last week on my 2018 430i xDrive preventatively and put in a Rein Aluminum one but used BMW gaskets.  It was a pain getting that bottom bolt, first having to remove 3 bolts underneath holding the Trans cooler in place so I could shift it left and get a small e10 gearwrench ratchet.... very tight... wish I saw your video earlier.... Great work!     My 2cents, probably best to vacuum fill on the coolant to avoid air pockets and also do a engine priming procedure before starting. Also, good to replace that upper heater hose... of course mine was stuck so needed a heat gun, patience and a lot of wiggling.  Some may be interested to know that after inspecting my original OFH with 65,500 miles it visually looked OK BUT, i took some small pliers to grab edges of plastic where gaskets are.... all were firm except that common coolant leak point (single rectangle) the plastic literally crumbled on that edge easily on all sides so... I think it is a ticking time bomb and would not wait to replace it.  Good luck!

Update:  I just picked up this VIM tool set which I think would be perfect for this type of job...all you need is a 1/4 e10 socket to go with it:  VIM Tools 7 PC. 1/4'' DR. Master Extension KIT   product# MEK400 $77 Bucks on Amazon

On the coolant flange i did E8 and it aint gripping to lossen it

I started this job last week. After finally reaching the OFH and struggling few hours with the lower side screw, I discovered that I managed to unscrew the wrong screw(the one sitting right below the OFH one). I went then a different way: took out the other 3 and broke the ear of the OFH :) After taking old OFH out I had clear access to the screw no. 4

A bit easier on a N52 😁

Those wheels are terrible on that BMW. Please please convince the owner to take them to the metal recycling center
