This is EXACTLY what I (mostly) figured out on my own after buying and destroying new blades with my blade guides for years. Thanks for explaining it so clearly.

i learned more about bandsaws in these 8 minutes than i did when i first bought one and watched a ton of videos, thank you!

This video showed me that it wasn't my fault and helped me find the real culprit. Me, three days beforehand when I destroyed my blade.

A wider blade and lowered guard will yield excellent results with just the fence.  I've resawn that way many times.

You have just clarified the whole issue of drifting here. Thanks a lot

I get that having a brand-new quality blade with undamaged tooth set will greatly help in making cuts that are straight. However, I don't completely see how the Little Ripper is different from a fence. You explained the case where, if you try to resaw using a fence on the left side of the blade, if the wood "deforms" as you cut it, and presses on the left side of the blade, and then damages the set on the left side of the blade due to forces between the fence and the left side of the blade. I get that. But isn't the Little Ripper just a fence that is on the right side of the blade? In your video, you just cut a very thin slice off of the slab that was mounted in the jig. But what if you had a big thick workpiece mounted in the jig, and wanted to resaw it in two. So, you start the cutting operation, and as you do, the stresses inside the wood cause the wood to press against the right side of the blade, because the wood slab is constrained on the right by the Little Ripper jig (just like a fence does). Would that not damage the set on the right side of the blade? Whichever way the forces are pressing as the wood is cut and stresses are released, if you have wood that is warping as it is being cut, it could be applying forces to the blade, either between the fence and the left side of the blade, or the jig and the right side of the blade.
Anyway, for the moment let's forget about how a new blade can be damaged by trying to resaw with a fence... Let's say we have no fence installed, and we have no Little Ripper jig. We just have a slab of wood that we are going to try to re-saw freehand, by following a line marked on the top of the workpiece. Surely, we would have to make sure that our brand-new blade is "aimed" straight? How do we do that? Other bandsaw videos explain that the "aim" of the blade is determined by some combination of how the blade rides on the top wheel, and how the blade guides are set up.

Thanks a million! There's a lot of great information in this video that isnt mentioned anywhere else and is extremely helpful to know.

A lot of bandsaws do not have the mitre slot aligned to the run of the blade, and the fence is not aligned to the run of the blade either. It is how commercial bansaws cut wood so nicely, just as you have explained. The rear guides keeps the blade vertical. As you say, side guides are not really needed with nice sharp blades.  Many do over tension their blades as well.  A great video. A simple sled makes cutting so much easier.

I've watched several videos on blade drift. Your video makes more sense than the others. Thanks!

Agreed - realised this some years ago and solved my drifting cut problems.

This guy really gets the bandsaw. Brilliant.

Your information videos are some of the best I have seen on Utube. I now look for your videos .  Good job 👍

Brilliant !  I learnt so much from this. Now I know why I was struggling so much.

Great vid, super helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for making & sharing your work I have learnt so much from your video thank god there are guys /woman out there that have this info

Your videos are excellent. I knew  most of what you said in this one, and knew about wood on the table saw pushing on the fence when the kerf spreads, but never considered the same thing with the band saw. I would love to have the sled set up you have on that powermatic.

I bought a really nice delta bandsaw and I almost threw it out on the street i was so frustrated I even went and got a jig saw just to get some work done. Thank you man for real

That resawing sled is nice!  Thanks for the explanation and demonstration!

I just learnt more in 8 minutes than I did in 10 years of using my bandsaw

You are the man! Thanks for the very helpful explanations.
