Thank you, I’m hyped now and going to strip the transaxle on my 1965 Beetle ( it fell off workbench twice, both times right on nose cone😢). Between you and me we can get it back on road

Thanks for this. I really want to pull out my swing axle and replace the 1st/2nd syncro. This looks difficult so I might take it to a pro. I rebuild the engine and that was easy but this is a lot.

Excellent

great video mate, would love to see one where you replace a 4th gear synchro gear :)

There are guys who work on transmissions and then there’s transmission guys. You are the latter. Great video(s)!

if you are just changing syncros you can mark the forks and be fine , but if think you had to move one of the forks to a diff spot its because you werent using a jig to hold the main shaft where it runs , so you thought it was preloading one side

Im glad you're doing this. I have a new one to me im going to go through for my square back.

So impressed by this. Thank you for making the video.

Sick bro.
Love this trans rebuild bro.
Vw bro.

Nice!

Hell ya

thx for the video  , i learn so much about gearbox , recently my gearbox got humming noise when high speed. any one can tell me where can i buy the gearbox bearing

How much did all the rebuild parts cost in total?

Roughly, what did it cost you in parts?

If im not mistaken the swing axle and IRS transmission are the same they just have different axle drive, or gearing depending the years.

1:52 Your 3rd-4th shift fork is badly worn out and should be replaced. The fork has three raised pads to contact the sides of the groove in the slider. The middle one on yours is worn down to nothing.

I noticed you didnt use a jig to rebuild the transmission. Everyone is talking about meshing and syncing and shimming the rack and pinion in a special jig whenever rebuilding. What am I missing?

my 4th gear pops out when driving. didnt take apart the transmission yet.
what part could be the issue for 4th gear popping out?
im trying to figure out the issue before taking the transmission apart. TIA

Great video, is that a irs convered to swing or just late swing?

this video is so damn helpful, thanks for posting it!. One question - at about 1:40 you point out the spring on the larger shaft - how do you compress the spring in the press and also get the circlip back onto it whilst under tension? Thanks
