There are few late night guests as consistent, and absolutely reckless as Norm Macdonald. From his appearances on Conan, to Letterman, to even morning talk shows centered towards middle-aged women, there's really nowhere he wouldn't go, if it meant he could get a laugh, or even better, make himself laugh. Let's dive into what makes him such a menace for late night TV, and why Norm Macdonald was so special.

Norm dying always makes me sad, reminds me of that tragedy

Norm was funnier telling the worst jokes imaginable than most comedians could ever hope to be. One of my favorites

I think Norm became more daring after he had stomach cancer in the late 80s. It's like... what do I have to lose?

She was not agitated. Courtney Thorne-Smith said she was thrilled and relieved by Norm Macdonald's comments during their 1997 Late Night with Conan O'Brien interview. She considered the roast a "gift" and described the experience as one of her favorite moments of her life, noting that she was happy to have Macdonald take over because she had low expectations for her film, Chairman of the Board, and did not know what to say to promote it.

I actually think Norm was helping her out. She was struggling with her talk show appearance. He made it funny!

My favorite Norm OJ joke.
That is some bad luck, when the one guy who would die for you, kills you.

Never forget he was deeply closeted.

R.I.P Norm

He's unapologetically himself, and 'himself' involves the love of poking fun at conversation guidelines

He was here to break the norm, and now that our Norm is gone, only the norm remains, which is way sadder that we expected.

During the Croc hunter bit he's loving the way Stewart is half breaking and yet still squirming, a nod to the craft.

That Bored joke was great. Spur of the moment showcased his quick wit and smarts and was more or less harmless. So good.

Norm was a living legend. Now he's a legend.

Whatever Norm did, was what Norm was supposed to do.

I think she said at the time that she found this interview refreshing and enjoyable where she was more at ease than the more frigid, formal interviews.
