As a swede thats used to harsh winters can say the finns are not use to winter, they are the winter.
Going to combat vs the finns in arctic climate would be a big no thanks to suicide. The people of "Sisu"  🇸🇪 🇫🇮

As a Finn I would say we dont want to humiliate, we want to educate.
That's the main point of any exercise: To learn and make friends.

Everyone is a big man, until the snow speaks Finnish.

As a Norwegian who's did my duty for King and country in the North, I can say that we all have tremendous and deep respect for the Finnish army. They're the best of the best when it comes to Arctic Warfare. Those are just facts.

The Finns do not need to boast.  Cheers from the Netherlands, where we are very happy indeed that they are on our team 🌷

It's just a simple matter of the Nordic countries like Finland are used to living and operating in arctic conditions. My grandfather fought against the Russians during the Winter war of 1939-1940 and the temperatures dipped to -40 C at times.

I'm a Dutchman and I'm not even a military or an athlete, but when my American son and his brother in law, one ex and the other current military, both served in Iraq, visiting me in my house in Bourgogne, France, and taking them on a bicycle trip I was stunned about their bad physical condition. They couldn't climb some medium hills. I'm afraid that a lot of Americans focus on muscle building and neglect training their endurance.

As a Canadian who grew up with one of the largest Finnish populations outside of Finland (Thunder Bay, Ontario).  I can attest to the fact that the Finns have likely forgotten more arctic survival techniques than most of us have ever known.  I have nothing but the utmost respect for their ability to not only survive but thrive in arctic environments.

It's also worth noting that Finland's level of planning for the possibility of Russian aggression could easily be a model for we in the west.  It is no coincidence that many of us are looking to learn lessons from Finland.

It is so simple for me as a Swede. I care for Finland. It is in my heart. It can not be undone. It is what it is. A bond.

I have a background in artic warfare since I served in MJK(Marinens Jeger Komando) in Norway. And this is the big problem when you have forign forces trying to keep up and its like your saying were used to this. We have spesialized our self in winter warfare, but the biggest problem is soldiers that dont listen. Its a reason why we have a sertain tempo during the whole exersise and its a reason why we take brakes and move i a sertain way and pattern. When you ignore good advice and dont change your shirt when told or keep on moving when your told to take a brake you get consequences like your back suddenly gets freezing cold and then everything that sticks out from your body like fingers, hands, toes, ears, nose, feet starts to freeze. American soldiers most of the time listen, but you have one or two in every unit that dont. They think they are the shit and we are just some ordenary Norwegian, Danish and Finnish soldiers, but the truth is were  special😂. Were a special breed of soldiers and we do this for a living. Were not running around on a base in Arizona and its a difference. I know we would have struggled a litlle bit if we did exersises down there, but the artic is brutal and punishes you without regret. Some of soldiers that comes here have only done it once or twice before and some of them have barely seen snow before. So when I tell you to wash your glasses in shavingfoam before we go out Im not saying it to punk you Im saying it to help you and make it a little bit easier for you, so you dont walk around with your glasses fogged up the whole exersise. It's those small things that will help you and when given advice from Scandinavian soldiers on their own terf just listen and do as we tell you. We telling you because we care and wants to make you better soldiers, soldiers we may one day fight side by side with and the most important it will save your life.❤

My experience of Arctic infantry is that you need to be good at cross country skiing. Skis are so much faster than snow shoes.

Finnish logistics troops actually repelled USMC landing in that exercise, because they were too well camouflaged, for the US recon to spot them. But things like these happen and that is why we train. And US with it's minuscule arctic capability being beaten by forces who live and train in those specific environment is hardly a surprise. I would expect the US to struggle in the arctic, it just means the rest of Nato is up to the level they do best.

Fun story: I met a group of American soldiers stationed on Naval Air Station Keflavik in 2003 while ascending the Hekla volcano. They were a cool gang, friendly and cheerful. But after a while they fell of and  gave up, only one joined us to reach the summit, turns out the only one of them who had the stamina to continue was their kindergarten teacher for military families staying extended periods.

As someone who has the greatest respect for Finland and what they achieved during WW2 - NOBODY in their right minds would attack Finland on home territory.. Absolute suicide if they do. Stay strong Finland!

As a Dutch reservist I would rather face 10 Americans than 2 Fins in the snow

We the norwegians we love the wild crazy finland. Satan a perkille. Skål

You know we send our kids to school ...walking at -30. Kind regards from a northern Swede. Preperatus Supervivet!

As a Norwegian serving 25 years, most of them in a recon/ISTAR unit in the Arctic: We had to go easy on the US several times when they just wouldn't listen to advice and the weather turned even worse.

"Finns and Norwegians... they treat it as Tuesday". I would expect Canadians could be listed there, too.

The entire idea that you can take some random infantrymen and give them arctic training and now they are special forces is redicolous. It makes more sense to take a random person living in the far north and give them military training. To be special forces in the arctic you have to live there and spend huge part of the time in nature for a year or more. Taking care of yourself in cold conditions is not something you become even a good beginner at after many weeks.
