Something interesting about this season was the amount of canceled content, which is more than we usually know.

From the files, we know the retirement castle was meant to be on the map, along with the monorail. There was meant to be a makeup shotgun that covered the opponent’s screen when they got shot. Giant Homer was also heavily rumored to have been a playable mini-boss like the previous Godzilla, Superman, and Mechazord.

In the animations, Wiggum uses a reskin of an existing Fortnite weapon which implies it was meant to return but ended up not.  King Toots was destroyed in a cutscene, and the destroyed version was in the files, but they never set the flag that would’ve made it visible.

A lil bit of info about the story that imo, makes things make abit more sense. The Simpsons story wasn't really a stand alone thing. It was written as a part of the story Fortnite had been doing all year long. To try and keep it simple, Fortnite had been setting up a war between the main characters (Hope, Jones and various others) and the Dark Presence (the alien creature first seen in the first short and then in the finale event). Both sides were fighting over a shard of the Zero Point, an incredibly powerful item that basically controls all reality. As part of the Simpsons event, Homer got the shard and used it for various things. This was all the stuff we see across the season, with the story missions being about Hope and Jones trying to get the shard back and get back to the island the rest of the chapter took place on to fight the Dark Presence. The finale event wasn't just meant to wrap up the Simpsons season, but the entire year. Hence why in addition to Homer, they also had Superman, Godzilla, the Megazord, and Star Wars characters, along with every other collab released this year

It’s weird they changed the maracas of the evil homer dance to donuts on forks with sprinkles flying off. I feel like we had more than enough donuts for him already.

39:29 this was mostly changed for other reasons outside of Fortnite’s control. It has been shown in other games that yellow school buses do not appear often. This is most likely the fact that companies don’t want people to shoot the yellow bus. This is backed by the fact that you can get a Bus as a vehicle in the game. You can color the bus any color besides yellow

I am 28 and a lifelong Simpsons fan. I played Road Rage and Hit and Run as a kid, the Simpsons Game when I was about ten or so, and later Tapped Out as a teenager, and I had never really considered playing Fortnite until this mini-season was announced. That coupled with a few people I know raving about it and the Disneyland 70th anniversary stuff made me play it for the first time and I am now hooked on it.

The "Do It For Us" billboard is such an oddly striking asset for something intended to only be visible in-game one time for eternity. And it's especially sad considering the poor coverage, so it's a good thing this video exists to properly document the work that went into the Simpsons content.

The loading screens you could unlock with the newspaper in the bottom left corner remind me of the newspaper loading screens in Hit & Run. I wonder if that was an intentional nod.

I understand that at the end of the day it is Fortnite, not a Simpsons game, and the Simpsons plotline was always meant to be essentially a footnote in the grander plot of Fortnite. But it really does feel wrong that there isn't at least some kind of epilogue where we see Springfield unmerge from the island and the residents rejoice in returning to the status quo or something. Even a really short animation you could find on Youtube would be some acknowledgement. It just... stops. I imagine this being the event that leads into the end of the Chapter meant some things were compromised, as the developers had to juggle both the Simpsons crossover stuff and the final battle preparations.

I believe the underwear homer skin exists as its own thing instead of style so they have something they can bring back in the shop. Until last year, battle pass things were exclusive to the battle pass, and would never be available again. Now, after 18 months, battle pass rewards can be sold in the shop, but this way they don't have to wait a year and a half to sell people a skin of Homer

The Fortnite team are massive Simpsons fans and it shows. There are even mutable cosmetics made before the Simpsons season that are references, like a emote made for Easter that is a reference to the scene where Ralph keeped putting the same Easter egg in his basket cuz of there being a giant hole in it

I found your channel late last year and I watched all your content twice and eventually I re-watched the first ten seasons of the simpsons after that. Thank you for re-kindling my interest in the series. I'd listen to your reviews outside of the simpsons as well. Keep up the great work! (:

You mentioned this towards the end but one of the things I also most enjoyed about it was just generally seeing a new wave of appreciation for The Simpsons across the internet, back when the mini-season was first rumoured/announced there was a lot of pushback from the Fortnite conmunity because "nobody cares about simpsons anymore, this is going to kill the game". Instead it was the most success the game has seen in recent memory and on top of that there were in fact more than a handful of people in my circles who got into the show because of the hype, which was fun to see since im 20 years old so both properties were big parts of my childhood

I do hope they're able to salvage the content into more of a permanent thing in the future, Fortnite does tend to bring back old stuff if there's a demand for it and there are certainly ways they could expand on it. They were supposed to add both the monorail and the retirement castle but they were cut due to time constraints, the season was such an undertaking for them it had the knock on effect of cancelling content even past the simpsons season so it'd be a shame if that all went to waste

The old Simpson farm house being randomly next to Evergreen Terrace and not at the actual farm was really weird to me

You also missed out on a reference to the box factory which was next to a gas station randomly.

1:05:00 The pictures in Moe’s had a lot of weird coloring errors. In the infamous White Apu picture, Barney also looks weird. It seems like they copied the colors from Skinner and Homer up front by mistake when upscaling it for the game.

The baseball jerseys the boys wear incorrectly gave some of them yellow shirts, which was later corrected. Carl’s arm is also yellow here which I don’t believe was ever fixed.

In the Pin Pal’s picture, Otto’s and Moe’s hair are the wrong color and again Apu has a yellow arm. I believe the hair did get fixed eventually

I feel this is important context as I saw a lot of “Epic is censoring Apu” posts coming out due to the accidental yellow washing and I want to set the record straight here.

I think the standardized house backgrounds and such were done for budget and consistency reasons. Like, you can have a scene in Lisa's room without needing to reinvent what it looks like, and it's jarring if things change between episodes for no reason. I imagine they just have a few stock backgrounds that can be cropped depending on the angle and framing of the scene, rather than just redrawing and recoloring the same background every time. Then they can also spend more time and money on making new assets and backgrounds.

Very much looking forward to watching this, there's still a massive hole in my heart since the mini season ended, nothing else has hit the same!

Despite playing the season almost every day, I know there's things I will have missed (despite my profile picture, I never entered the Van Houten house ONCE) so I'm keen to find out given how thorough you are with these videos.
