The Vice President of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa, is in Uruguay on an official visit.
During his stay, he was received at the Executive Tower by President Yamandú Orsi, participated in a luncheon where he shared the table with the Ministers of the Interior and Livestock, and held several meetings with the opposition, including one with Álvaro Delgado, president of the National Party's board of directors, and another yesterday with former President Julio María Sanguinetti and the Secretary General of the Colorado Party, Andrés Ojeda.
In recent years, the "Bukele model" has been a recurring theme in discussions about El Salvador. This refers to the public security model implemented by President Nayib Bukele since taking office in 2019, which has significantly reduced crime in the country but has been criticized by international organizations that allege human rights violations.
In Uruguay, some defend this model and argue that it is necessary, while others believe it is not the appropriate one.
What is the reason for Ulloa's visit to Uruguay? Which of these positions have our country's leaders presented to him?
Emiliano Cotelo spoke with the Vice President of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa.
