Pet Sematary scared the hell out of me as a kid. Now that I'm a father, it scares the hell out of me for different reasons.

Fun fact about Pet Sematary: His son Joe Hill was about Gage's age when he wrote this and he said in his book On Writing that when he wrote it they had moved into a house that actually had a Pet Sematary spelled like that in the back, and one day Joe did toddle out into the road but they got to him in time before a truck barreled passed and hit him. Pet Sematary is his what if he hadn't made it to Joe in time. He also nearly through the entire draft away because it horrified him so bad.

The scariest book I’ve read was heart shaped box by Joe hill. The first half of the book was giving me all out panic attacks with how good Joe hill writes suspense.

When I was younger, The Exorcist and Rosemarys' Baby. Both great books and great films as well. I find though books about people scare me more more now and what humans are capable of.

So happy to see penpal. Its such a great story that is truly dreadful and messed me up.

The Stephen King book I keep going back to is The Stand. It never fails to creep me out.

The Strain trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan was terrifying. The terror did not stop me from reading the first book in one night ( with a light on!). I searched for the next two and did the same thing. The science was fascinating in the virus aspect of the tales, even though it was still scary. The tv show did not do the books justice. The airplane scene in the book and the scratching at the mail slot of one of the victims made me hold my breath and pace the room. These books are great!

It was "Bird Box" for me that had a creepy atmosphere for me. The movie, however; did not to it justice, it's just not the same as reading in alone at night LOL

Penpal actually had two authors who built the story about 50/50 together, but Dathan never gave his co-writer any credit. The other writer wrote out everything the stalker did in the story, as well as the more heartfelt romance, and Dathan wrote around that. It was very much a collaborative work, but we only know if the one author.

Hell house was fantastic book i loved it!!

I’ve consumed so much horror content that nothing really scares me anymore. The Graveyard Apartment was the last book that scared me and gave me goosebumps. Very chilling and I highly recommend it!

We all need to tag each other on Goodreads! So many titles

I’m going to add to the recs for House of Leaves. Also, the authors sister, Poe ,wrote an album named Haunted that goes along with the book. The music is very atmospheric and even creepy in places. The book Tender is the Flesh is a good one. Not so much horror as it is horrifying, if that makes sense. I had to stop and make sure I’d really read what I thought I did in a couple of places with that one.

There are chapters in Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House that sent shivers down my spine. Particularly when someone is telling other characters about Hill House's history and origin.

And I recently read Hell House. Enjoyable but a little over the top and.. very pornographic.

OMG PENPAL IS MY FAVORITE! I had no idea others had read it I heard it from creep cast! LOVE THIS!

The Road was the scariest, bleakest book I have ever read...my goodness. It felt too real and could totally happen! 😱

Appreciate all the recommendations. I have to add my two cents and say some of Ambrose Bierce's stories have frightened me more than any other scary stories.

If you like The Road, you'd really like Swan Song

yes please add movies to the channel! I love your recommendations so I'm curious to see what you would do for movies.
