Rewatching something came to my mind
someone said the dopplegangers are the bad version of a person they're copying, and mayor dawson and the dentist look familiar,so does that mean that dentist is a doppleganger of dawson?cause mayor was a very nice guy and was helping people, and the dentist other way round hurts them.I guess original bill dawson loved his son,so dentist hated him so that's why he wanted him dead??
It feels like mayor dawson commited thinking it will erase the dentist with him and it worked for some time
(Also the dentist offered help for mr meow's surgery,it looked like something bill dawson would've done)
