Game development always takes more time than people think. A short tutorial might take you only a few days, but once you set your sights on something ambitious, like a Tomb Raider–style adventure game, the timeline stretches into years. The reason is simple: a game isn’t just coding. You have to build dialogue, create a story that makes sense, design levels that feel alive, add sound effects and music, and polish all of it until it works together. Even then, not every asset you import will behave properly—some will break or even crash the project, forcing you to spend more time fixing than building.
Life outside the screen makes the process even slower. If you live alone and dedicate yourself fully, progress will be faster. But when you have a girlfriend, wife, or family, time management becomes one of the hardest challenges. Relationships, daily responsibilities, and the reality of needing rest all take priority at times, and that slows down your workflow. Many developers end up working late at night or in small bursts of time, and over the years that adds up to a much longer journey.
A solo developer working with no budget can easily spend five or six years finishing a project. If that person also has a family and a day job, it could take closer to a decade. With a small, focused team, development may shrink to a few years, but with a professional team and millions of dollars in funding, a game could be finished in one or two years. That is the kind of scale big studios work with, and it’s why their timelines are so different.
This is the side of game development the industry rarely shares. They showcase polished trailers and finished products, but they don’t talk about the years of sacrifice, the trial and error, the financial pressure, and the strain on personal life that goes into making a game. The truth is that whether it’s worth it or not depends entirely on your goals, your resources, and how much of your life you are ready to put into the process.

Seen so many "several hours long, multiple part, comprehensive videos" on different systems that just overload my brain, it's just nice seeing someone cover a simple Quest system in the space of half an hour that I can actually follow along with and understanf.

Honestly, this is the best explanation and example of interfaces that I've seen. Paid courses don't explain interfaces as well as this video.
