In this video I am going to do an unbiased and unsponsored review of the Inon UCL G55 underwater macro lens. I have tested this lens extensively on the Insta360 AcePro 2, DJI Action 6 and GoPro Hero 13. I will compare the lens against the other macro options you have like the Backscatter Macromate, AOI UCL-03, 67mm lenses and its brother the Inon UCL G100.

I'm currently using a UCL03, so after watching your video, the G55 looks like the perfect choice for my next trip to Anilao. Thanks for the tip about the sticks. It was really helpful and answered one of my biggest concerns about whether I should order one in the future.

Even though this might not be exactly on topic, I’d really love to see a comparison between your footage from when you used professional cameras and recordings from smartphones or action cameras.
It would be fascinating to see a direct comparison and hear your explanation of what sets the pro cameras apart—like the sensor, for example.

Very interesting discussion Sean. Thank you. I do a lot of video in freshwater streams and creeks but use a remote camera....ie gopros left in situ and retrieved 30 minutes to an hour later. As I mainly film small fish, I run into the focus problems when they come too close to the lens. I've experimented with screw on diopters and cracking the glue on my old gopro lens so I could adjust the focus for close ups. My best results come from a cheap chinese SJ4000 camera (only 1080p), if I set it up close to a rock or something that fish might rest on. I'm yet to try the lens adjustment on one of my newer gopros for fear of wrecking it, but the macromate mini could be a good option for me.

Have been using the Leton24 (single only) on your review, with a DJI 5no macro so have been waiting on what lens to get. I also use a TG6 for photo's but unfortunately (for me) you don't do the TG's and lenses/strobe recommendations in your videos. Keep up the good work.

Hi Sean, I have an Insta 360 Pro2 and need macro for B-roll for a short film. How do you think the footage would look on a cinema screen? I know a lot of films include GoPro footage. Cheers
