Jon Lord talks about his Hammond organ sound

Jon Lord, Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover talk about Jon's overdriven / distorted Hammond organ sound(mostly referred to as "The Beast") used on various Deep Purple records, albums such as In Rock, Machine Head and Made In Japan. Jon also gives a nice demonstration, playing the organ solo from Highway Star. Truly a great piece of Deep Purple history!

He died on my birthday. I was going home from a party, drunk and happy, and then suddenly I've heard the news. That was a sad moment, I even allowed myself some tears. But still he lives in his music, and I'll always remember Jon Lord.

Roger Glover is possibly the coolest and most down to earth rockstar ever.

Every rock keyboard player was influenced by this man. They can’t deny it. RIP Jon.

"Scattered through all the Purple records are solos with warts and all."--Jon Lord

Those are some mighty beautiful warts. God bless Mr. Lord.

Roger Glover was the gentleman of Deep Purple. He is the kind of guy you could go have a beer with and have a great time. He is a genuine good person

Is the REAL beast the hammond or the man himself?
What an underrated cool dude.
cheers Jon!

Thank you for all the good times you have given us Jon. You'll be sorely missed. You were not only a top-class musician but also a gentleman and a great compassionate soul. Your battle with physical pain is over - enjoy the everlasting bliss of the heavens' peaceful realms.

Early Deep Purple were the perfect storm.

I worked with Deep Purple in the early 70's and saw the early setup which included a Shure line mixer for overdrive into a Crown DC300A amplifier. All of the speakers in the Leslie were replaced with Gauss woofers and a JBL 2482 driver. Since then that original sound has been duplicated in a simplified form to make it more manageable.

HUGE loss for all of us who grew up listening to Deep Purple, plus all the other great Bands he was part of. Also those who just appreciated creative genius, no matter the genre. Can you imagine him & Billy Preston, playing together now? Those Hammonds have the Angels singing......I guarantee!! His "sound" & innovation are just as Legendary as he is. A true master......R.I.P. Mr. Lord

And now, if Deep Purple is finally inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, the genius Jon Lord can't be there. It's disgusting that the idiots overseeing the RRHOF have excluded Deep Purple for so long that now one of the most important and founding members of the band has passed away.
