The best thing about this gag is that Peter wasn't trying to get their old stair wood back doing that on purpose, he was legitimaly trying to be careful coming down the stairs, but I guess the animators really wanted to have their fun here
Say what you want about Peter Griffin, but the way he commits to falling down the stairsāevery single timeāis honestly iconic. Itās like watching a man meet fate head-on, in full denial and zero preparation. And the groaning afterward? Thatās not just physical pain, thatās the sound of existential regret. People laugh, but to me itās a metaphor. Life knocks you down, drags you through every wooden step on the way, and all you can do is lie at the bottom clutching your knee, whispering āssss-ahhhhā into the void.
The fact that Lois keeps the stairs as long as she does when Peter is inflicting a lot of pain going down but when Stewie gets a splinter, the stairs needed to change. Ah, genius writing.
I'm more curious about how Peter keeps getting back up the stairs if he keeps violently slipping and falling down the stairs with just a single, small step
