Nights at the Barbadillo prison, where former president Pedro Castillo is incarcerated, have become a scene of visits from some members of the Together for Peru coalition. Deputies and senators from this group have been recorded arriving at the prison at night, in some cases carrying bags of food and using modern vehicles.

Among the legislators appearing in these records are Julián Pérez Mallqui, Iber Maraví Olarte, José Castillo Terrones, Yenifer Paredes, and Jessica Sadith Pérez Quispe. All of them belong to Together for Peru and, according to the records, arrived at the prison in modern vehicles and then entered after identifying themselves to the prison staff.

Some of the visitors were even seen carrying bags of food inside the prison. The visits took place at night, a situation that has raised questions about the conditions under which these legislators are entering the prison.

IRREGULARITIES?

According to former congressman Víctor Andrés García Belaúnde, the members of parliament were aware that these visits could be irregular and that the chosen time would allow them to go unnoticed. “It’s an abuse of power,” García Belaúnde stated, adding that the Ethics Committee should launch an investigation to determine whether the legislators misused their credentials or their parliamentary status to facilitate these visits.
