Roddenberry used the transporter concept as he did not want the story to get bogged down showing shuttlecraft sequences carrying crewpersons back and forth. He then had to come up with plot devices to explain why the crew could not just beam out of danger.

It would be awful for you because you lack the star fleet training required to survive on such a ship lol! Most of the people on those ships signed up to be on there with in theory extensive star fleet training to prepare them for the long journey ahead.

It's about issues and not facts. Facts are an inconvenience that are just pushed aside. Do not let the facts get in the way of the issues, or else we'll have to.............What? Exactly!

Nonsense. Complete nonsense. I've served under way worse conditions in the military. Compared to living on a fob in the middle of the desert, this would be a vacation resort.
