Using an actual engineering degree to play Bridge Constructor Portal...

Real Civil Engineer

Bridge Constructor Portal is bridge building game that adds Portal style puzzle to the mix, and I'll be seeing if my real world professional engineering skills help me solve them (like it definitely did with Poly Bridge 2... Right guys, right!?)

Yes, the title is a parody of RTGame's video title!

I remember back in college in the early '00s, there was a bridge program we used that I believe was called the West Point Bridge Constructor, or something along those lines. It was an actual bridge simulator with real materials and costs and I think there was even a contest to build the cheapest bridge that still worked. Anyway, it would be interesting to see if that is still available somewhere and what a real Civil Engineer could do in that program.

That's also how I imagine Matt makes these videos: he sits behind his desk with a hard hat on.

When life gives you lemons, you make life take the lemons back. I don’t want your goddamn lemons.

The problem with trusses in this game is that the standard material stretches a fair amount. Which compresses the middle truss, along with transferring the entire bridge load to it. Hence why under trusses usually work better (the game does not mention them though).
Edit: Oh, he made one!

As a former forklift operator, I really dig the passengers on this. 😄

I love the basic portal game. So Portal bridges is super awesome

I want to see more of this, mostly because there are some levels later on that I need help with 😅

“Ah, a new game! Looks like RCE might play this one reasonably, for a change…”

Literally puzzle 3:
“I just found the middle mouse button!”
Absolute chaos ensues

Ahhh yes. Of course 😂😂😂

I'm actually surprised it's taken you this long to play this one. So hyped now!

Pontifex is a great bridge building game from the early 2000s and someone else mentioned Armadillo Run it's a great puzzle game where you have to get a little armadillo from point A to point B using a wide variety of materials

This was a triumph
I'm making a note here:
huge success.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Please play through this completely! I got stuck on the last level and need help...

would be interesting to know if they added fatigue damage: you could get the amplitude of each of the cycles and assume some material properties and an S-N curve and that would be all you need
