Gotta admit, Gospel is a genre I'm much less familiar with overall. So, if there are things you'd like me to check out here on the channel in the future, let me know here!

Not you saying Sister Act 2 is a “RANDOM 90s MOVIE” man… 🤣🤣🤣

Jazz and blues ARE gospel. Those genres came out of the black church, not the other way around.

As a young kid, I melted every time I heard Lauren Hill and Tonya Blount sing this. Still does.

“THIS RANDOM 90s MOVIE” is reprehensible and I need you to ask for forgiveness 😌

Charles needs one of his black friends to take him to church so he can hear this music in its context! 🤣

Sister Act 2 is probably my ultimate comfort movie

This song, oh happy day and Joyful Joyful are soooo beautiful from sister act 2. Also i wish the full version of this song was in the movie.

Gospel is literally the blueprint for most of r&b and pop music today….

The arranger Mervyn Warren was a founding member of Take 6.

Knew it was sister act without even clicking 🤣

Baby that is soul.  You need to come to an old country church in the South on any given Sunday.  Gospel gave birth to Jazz, Blues and Rock and Roll.

This was a fun watch! You're going to 💩 a brick when you discover Richard Smallwood's catalog

I saw the thumbnail and was expecting "Joyful Joyful" but was not disappointed

And this was before Auto-Tune, Melodyne, and all that.  Nowadays they would cast whomever they liked the look of, then digitally alter the voice to get at those pitches.  But in 1993?  THAT is 100% pure unfiltered Lauryn Hill and Tanya Blount.  And they both sound INCREDIBLE.  No digital fakery required.

I remember as a kid hearing people sing this song like this in the black church for years even before it was on Sister Act. But the movie definitely affirmed it.

Oh buddy, you've only scratched the surface 😂

As a lifelong gospel musician, I truly appreciate the respect and attention to detail you give to our genre and culture of musical approach. There are so many versions of this song but this is by far my favorite

Can we also talk about Lauren Hill? Such a beautiful voice. We need her back.

I'm not religious anymore but man this song still gets me in the feels. There is something so authentic, powerful, melancholy about the way that black people approach music. It's like they feel things deeper, and we are so lucky that they show us that deeper place to go. So beautiful
