I love my 2008 Subaru Legacy 3.0R Limited EZ30R. It is smooth and quiet and responsive. It may be my last car as I am 70.

We lucked out when we bought our 1999 Impreza outback, because it has the 2.2 motor which does not blow head gaskets, and lasts forever. Ours has 307,000 miles on it and is still going strong.

I’ve been driving Subaru cars since my first purchase of a brand new 1986 Brat. The ONLY time I’ve ever had any issues with any vehicle was recently having to replace the front drive shafts on my 2018 Forester XT. I’ve never had engine problems. I’ll always own a Subaru. 😊

The NA H6 was a brilliant design. My family had a 2001, ll bean outback with the 3.0. They got it in late 2000. This engine lasted 300, 000 miles and then age and rust took the car out. Ran a compression check when the engine was 15 yrs old. It was perfect. They nailed those H6 engines. The only issue was changing the spark plugs. You had to loosen the motor mounts and jack the engine up.

Just bought a 2015 forester XT, and I was so incredibly happy with it when I checked it out in person and pulled the carfax. 90k miles, meticulously serviced by Subaru dealerships, fuel system maintained, common carbon buildup areas cleaned recently, transmission fluid changed twice once being very recent, rear main seal replaced 10k ago, etc etc. gonna have my Subaru service department inspect turbo banjo screen/bolts and I’ll change out the PCV valve but otherwise the car is in terrific shape and I couldn’t pass up on this gem of a stock FA20DIT forester. So fun to drive

To be fair none of the original EJ25s likely have their original cheesy head gaskets by now.

I run an EG33 NHRA Bracket ET car, alcohol injected, Holley Terminator managed and love it (minus custom manufacturing to get parts and hand making gaskets) Note: First full import to win the Nightfire Nationals at Firebird Raceway 2024

I have a 1976 1600 4WD wagon, with an EA63 engine. It still runs great! I also have a 1998 Forester S with the EJ2.5 DOC. Yes, I went through the whole HG problems with it, but once I installed 6-star HG's in it, I haven't had a problem since, and that was 20 years ago! It's been rock solid since then.

I had an svx for about 5 years and I really miss it. It was so cool looking, one of Giugiaro's best designs. It was quiet and comfortable and was quicker than expected. It was great in the snow too.

Garage54 built a unique Subaru engine: they took a boxer engine, cut it in half, and turned it into an inline-4 , pretty crazy 😋

I can verify the EJ253 is a great engine in my 2005 Forester XS, it is everything Mr Subaru states. Changed the head gaskets (installed Six Star head gaskets) and all engine seals at 195,000 miles, including belts, pulleys, tensioners and clutch. Super easy to work on and I never have to deal with the RTV'ed engines. I get on average 4 to 6 mpg less than any of the new Subarus and I have bullet proof reliability. Thank you for covering all those engines.

Very happy with my 2012 Outback 3.6R (EZ36D engine). No timing belt issues or oil leaks - but it does consume oil (~1 L/4000miles). ~151,000 trouble-free miles so far (with regular maintenance from a great mechanic).
We love our Subarus!

I was looking specifically for a stock 2002-2005 WRX non-STi to buy as a daily and found one with ~120k kilometers after months of searching and waiting. The EJ205 was well maintained and properly used in its 20+ years of life. This car is fun, reliable and super fast on a tight mountain road without any mods to the engine. Thumbs up to the previous owner and Subaru for creating such an amazing machine.
