This was a great idea for a demo! I realized, watching it, that I've naturally imagined the distinct planes of a an imagined head as I've painted, but having an actual 3D plane head would be so helpful if a painter weren't that familiar with the planes. Brilliant!
Chris, what's your process to match the Asano head's light to the photo reference you have. It would be very helpful to see that :) thanks for another excellent tutorial!
And what do you do when you have a reference (a commission) that simply has NO values because the light hits the face directly? It gets really complicated for me—I’ve tried to think it through and vary the light, even “invent” forms, but I just can’t manage it.
Wondering what the light is that you are using while painting. Warm? Cool? What works for lightning up reference and work space? Loving your videos and appreciate your efforts to bring us along the journey!
man i constantly get confused about process, this was SO helpful, bc I was thinking the exact same thing! HOW do I get my work to look loose and fluid, while still retaining the structure and weight of my subject? And when I do figure something out, I'm like....wtf was it that simple the whole time lol?! Thanks coach, I always can count on you to make it make sense😇😆
