Thank you for adding the visual aids at the end, this is important for those of us who don't have ears like yours!!

Hard listening, and Daw plugin usage, to some of my fav mixes from some fav tunes, revealed the fx are what was panned wide off center, gtrs, vocal verb, snare verb, OH's, Room mic's and or, chorus line instrument parts added in or automated up and panned for effect, the tune always ran at a natural roughly 50% spread from center. One tune's chorus came in wide at the chorus, from say this 50%- 60% spread, to full 100% for volume and energy rise effect from the chorus gtr distortion choice. Mono compatibility was always super strong, not phasey thinning at all as the only thing being removed was the fluff, fx, verbs, or some energy, volume, in the chorus. This was genre and tune specific tho, that strong mono compatibility must have been important to them, but it gave me lots of ideas, they were late 90's recordings....thx for the vid.

Wow - I’ve seen some really good mix tutorials, but you are by far the best.  The advice is solid and you take the appropriate time to explain things without all of the hype most people portray today.  I’m very familiar with all of these concepts, but I learned a lot today - especially like your process and the way you approach the mix.
