I can relate totally with what you're talking about. I just turned 67 last week and I have been passionate about photography since the mid 1980's. So I have been through a lot of ups and downs when it comes to photography. I'm going through it again as a matter of fact. I don't live in a very scenic place so I'm never too excited to get out locally, but I do from time to time, and I'm mostly glad when I do, but there are many times the motivation to do it just isn't there. I'm lucky that I have a few other hobbies that don't have anything to do with photography, but sometimes they do. What I mean is, I'm very into woodworking and have a decent little shop set up, and its fun to go take pictures then make my own frames and print them. And I also love building models, but then it's fun to set them up and photograph them and use my camera and get creative that way. That's another thing you can do is try all genres of photography, I love shooting still life's a lot. So having something else you like to do is very helpful, it can take you away from photography for a while and do something else, and then you miss the camera and want to grab it and get back out there, even if it's just out in your own back yard. Hope some of that makes sense..lol.

I totally understand how you felt. I’m autistic and adhd and I 100% love photography. But them days happen to me often. It normally happens if I’ve had a busy few days leading up. You just have to listen to your body and your mind. Otherwise you could make it worse.

You don’t the right thing in going home.

I’m starting my new channel in a few weeks so I’m sure they will still be good days and bad days. But if you didn’t have the bad days then you wouldn’t appreciate the good days 😊

It happens Henry. A big difference though is that most of us are doing this as a hobby and not making a living from it, so a little added pressure for you. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Such an honest viewpoint Henry. Your experience of what could be described as the equivalent of “writers block” happens to many creative photographers I am certain. Your description of how you felt certainly resonates with me and whilst I am only an enthusiastic photographer (not professional), I have had similar experiences during a planned photography trip which left me somewhat “flat” and unfulfilled. Thanks again for an informative video.

There is a cost to being actively involved in the business of being a creator.   At times, you do need to just do something else to give the mind a break.
Going for a walk without the camera, just enjoy the moment.

Ive come and gone with other channels but yous is the one i never stop watching.

Henry - We’ve all had those walks. Packing up the kit, stepping out with high expectations, and coming back with... nothing. It’s frustrating, but it’s a completely normal part of creative burnout; not a sign that you’ve lost your touch.
When the mojo vanishes, trying to force standard photography usually backfires.

A walk with a camera where you take zero good photos is still a walk outdoors with fresh air.

My usual way to get back on it is to just take the phone, enjoy the outdoors and practice creativity with zero pressure or expectation s.

We love your honesty , you keep it real . We have come to expect gritty reality from you and we absolutely relate to the fact that not every trip is fabulous with fabulous experience , great passion. , superb results etc sometimes we dont feel it , we don't  get the results.
It's a relief and an inspiration to us that our photography heroes and mentors have bad days too ... because we would all become so disillusioned watching YouTube photography that is perfect and wonderful every trip when ours isn't,  we would be thinking we are failures ....
Keep on keeping it real , it's what makes me tune in week after week .

I'm recovering from a stroke. Going for daily walks is vital to me hopefully getting better. I have those days too. The days where I struggle to find anything that works at all. And it's my health at stake! But I've learned to not let those days derail the other, more positive days. It's ok to not be 100%, 100% of the time. Get home. Have a cuppa. Deep breath. Go again another day.

I'm glad this video came out because I've had many a blip recently with regards to having enthusiasm for something I love. I think there are so many things going on at the moment everywhere that's hard to break away and enjoy the things we like to do. So it's comforting to know that it also happens to other people including yourself and honestly the video helps massively. So as I always say on there thank you for being you Henry and for being honest. One of the main reasons I've followed you all these years is not only for the photography and the videos but just for you being genuine and a really decent person.

We're your extended family, Henry, through thick and thin.
I'm sure there are many of us who can't do the walks like we used to, Thursday evening is a joy.

Living the through the battle of quitting every day. Not doubting myself, doubting everyone else. There is no support. No chance of progression for nobody's like me.

I’ve retired now but I remember that many times in my career I didn’t want to go in to work in a job I actually loved. YouTube and photography is your job. Without it you don’t eat. Most people watching can take photos when we feel like it. For you it’s different. A few meh days aren’t the end of the world and you’ll probably be more eager to get out with your camera after a few days off.

Henry, sometimes you wake up and just wonder why you do what you do. I have found that if I find the one thing that you like and one thing that inspires you, you will be surprised how many times your attitude changes. If that doesn't work, take something from inside your house and put it an unusual composition and see what you can make of it. I use Lego minifigures of figurines and see if I can find that place that would look natural. That being said, no matter what, your adventures inspire us and you show us areas that some of us will never have the opportunity to see. Thank you for taking us along and thanks for sharing.

Sometimes the Photography Gods give us diamonds, other times they give us lemons. Rarely do they intervene and tell us to get back in the car and go home.

Mate, I don't know if you realise what an amazing job you do here. I've just started a landscape photography channel, in part inspired by you. It's nothing as good as what you do but for now I'm enjoying doing it. Already I'm full of respect for the amount of work needed to do what you do here every week.

Mental burnout is a real thing and identifying the early signs is a great way of avoiding it. Take a break. Like you say. Go do something else. The camera, the scenery will always be there another day and you'll laugh at how you could ever get fed up wandering in the scenery with a camera.

I think everyone has good days and bad days irrespective of what your job is. Photography for me, at this moment, is a hobby, but I still days where I’m not feeling it. I try and keep my photography varied, although weighted towards landscapes. That seems to work.
