Rhen Var makes me wish we got a Battlefront game that exclusively created new, unseen planets.

I feel like battlefront 2’s biggest mistake was not including all the best maps from the first game aside from Echo Base

Asymmetrical maps create natural story telling for every match. Even in bot matches. Online competition has completely ruined this breed of map design

Sucks that this map never made a comeback. It's still a relic of the early 2000s SW games.

Dune Sea Dune Sea Dune Sea Dune Sea Tatooine: Dune Sea Tatooine: Dune Sea Tatooine: Dune Sea WE NEED A VIDEO ON DUNE SEA PLEASE

Those corridors on Bespin.... Absolute slaughterhouses...

You guys better start smashing that like button. this needs to be a year long series

One of my most lasting Star Wars memories was booting this map up for the first time. Realizing with horror how the empire had a walker and panicking about how we would kill it without snow speeders. And then seeing the ai and me in a line of vehicles finally taking it down with rockets.

It helped me to finally feel the   long costly war the rebels had

3:37 one of the biggest flaws of Battlefront II is replacing one of the greatest loading screens ever.

As a kid, I was so disappointed when the CIS didn't get the option to be on the offensive. My younger self wanted to drive an MTT so badly.

Rhen Var bros, we are back. So nice to be noticed. My favorite Star Wars Planet. It's mysterious, it's familiar, but different. It has such an obvious sense of history that makes me want to know more.

This is a great format you have here you know; these deep dives into these classic maps.

It's such a sad planet, even as a kid, I knew there was something wrong about it, something bad happened there, the fact that the map called "Harbor" had no visible large, liquid bodies of water.

21:25 the crypt is supposed to be Ulic Quel-Droma's crypt. In the 2002 clone wars video game you mentioned before, Anakin and Obiwan go on a mission to find the crypt to commune with the spirit of Ulic to hopefully gain insight on how to stop the Dark Reaper, an ancient sith superweapon that Dooku was attempting to rebuild to use against the Republic

If the citadel was meant to be a resting place of a jedi knight, could one argue that the coffin was broken open by grave robbers or sith acolytes looking for artifacts.

I know you meant the Republic and Empire share the Command Post for Ren Vhar. But for anyone curious, this is how the command posts are shared for all maps.

Republic/Rebel (CIS/Empire) Command Post:
Bespin Cloud City
Bespin Platforms
Kashyyyk Docks
Kashyyyk Islands
Naboo Plains
Yavin Temple

Republic/Empire (CIS/Rebel) Command Post:
Rhen Var Citadel
Rhen Var Harbor
Tatooine Dune
Tatooine Mos Eisley
Naboo Theed
Yavin Arena

Era Locked
Endor
Geonosis
Hoth
Kamino

Me: "YOU AGREED TO STAY AWAY"
Aspyr: "I Lied"

God I loved Rhen Var Harbor, this is what I think of when I think of battlefront, as a kid seeing those big walkers lumber toward you out of the fog was amazing

I think this is the kind of video many people, including myself, have wanted. Youtube is awash with bite size Battlefront channels doing top 10s and small facts etc. Not to say they are bad, just that a more analytic approach to these maps we all have such strong childhood memories of is truly a joy to listen to and even raises some elements of the maps that I never realised. It really goes to show how, imo, perfect these games are as two people can have the same map and yet consistently have entirely different games for years.

I always loved the Crypt area of this - I would never say Rhen Var was "foreboding" as I see some say, but I was always struck by the ancientness of the place. It truly felt like fighting over a structure impossibly old. A perfect atmosphere, one of many the og Battlefront had (the thing I think it has over BF2 in fact)

Fun fact, if you play on harbor, inside the ice caves, if you go from the command post inside, run along the the right wall of the right tunnel, and you will clip through it, falling outside the map. I would usually use this as the clone jet trooper to clip inside the back of the lighthouse command post to capture it within 1 minute

Also you can get on top of the mountain in harbor, take either the empires tank or the rebels tank and drive it to the open area where the at at spawns and drive up the mountain sideways. Once at the top you can get out for an excellent sniping position but you cannot walk down because there is a kill barrier so you would have to make the descent in your vehicle

Also idk if these things work on all platforms, because I only play on Xbox

The Rhen Var pair are probably my favorite Battlefront maps. Love the cool temples and the ice planet look, feels like something you'd have seen in one of the Jedi Knight games with Kyle. Not to mention being a reference to Pandemic's last game (fun fact, the TX-130 tanks also first appeared in that game, explaining their appearance in Battlefront). Multiple lanes of attack or methods of defense also helps it from feeling less like a corridor shooter. Also BF2's Harbor remake is beautiful (as long as you look at the original and not the Classic Collection version)

Dune Sea is probably my second favorite for gameplay reasons, I think the layout is done well enough and it has a fun gimmick with the Tuskens as an independent faction. Platforms is a classic, though I personally didn't like it as much since it's so dependent on single hallway chokepoints (There's the ships too but that feels risky since its relatively easy to get shot down)
