I hope you enjoyed this video! Let me know all your thoughts on the cut creatures, biomes & vehicles; what would you have kept? :)

I personally wish they kept the Sand Worm in the Dunes. It could've been an optional leviathan like the Sea Treaders, just hostile.

The coral reef crabber and Infinite tree would fit very well in Subnautica 2

10:39 the issue with the designs being designed to go underwater is in the game's lore.They express that all those vehicles were actually designed for space because they're gonna make a phase gate using those vehicles. What's I found really hilarious that they called all the vehicles after nautical terms.Considering the only vehicle in the first game that was explicitly stated to only be good in water was the cyclops.

I think we can all agree based on what we've seen in subnautica 2 the devs definitely took another look at some of these designs.

As you mentioned, the Large Bird, clown pincher, and Gulper Leviathan are all part of the De-extinction mod.

I think a lot of what was cut from the game was because they decided to stray away from being a horror game. Many of the biomes and creatures that were cut would’ve been inarguably terrifying, and we know the devs specifically didn’t want to make Subnautica a horror. If they did lean towards a more scary game, they would’ve been fantastic additions! Definitely wouldn’t mind getting some of them added in sub2 or in mods for those who do want that scary aspect added in

By the amount of biomed showed in concepts make me wonder, how big they intended for the original Subnautica map be? Like, currents that take you to different places? Big open areas? They wanted to let us explore the whole planet probably lol

We have had 2 of these come back as modded leviathans and they are pretty cool

@Gherkins 2 months ago

0:30 pretty sure these existed for years and years. i think they are unused due to the devs just never finding a good spot for them. they are also i think 100% invisible until you force them to glow.

the first biome seems to be a reference to the cryptid "The Black Carpet"

Back when subnautica 1 was still in early access I always imagined the infinite tree as being tied into the game's ending. Like the aurora's reactor is slowly poisoning the planet so you'd have to revive the infinite tree to save it.

It looks like a good amount of this content made it to Sub2!

7:37 Single Cell Bloodscape is the Thalamus from Barotrauma, and it's absolutely both disturbing and terrifying to deal with (unless you've dealt with it before, but even then lol).

It's kindof cool how many of these concepts have been reworked and added as different creatures :) Like the sandworm sortof becoming the Subnautica 2 Sandspear or the Reefbacks being able to camouflage and rest on the sea floor being similar to the coral crabs' behaviour. I really hope something similar to the single-celled biome is added to Subnautica 2 as well, that idea has always been so interesting to me

@bigboizack 2 months ago

5:52 I think it would have been cool to be in the craigs field biome near the back of the aurora

Imagine we had the Infinite tree biome be taken over by the Single Cell organism & / the Red Plague.. Basically becoming The Shape from Still Wakes the Deep. All the life pod survivors we never find could all turn up there having been...changed.

@Weegee1_the_portal_master 2 months ago

The Podback Leviathan is pretty neat, I’m shocked they scrapped it.

"Single cell landscape" is very reminiscent of the "Black carpet" deep sea diver story and wouldn't be surprised if it was directly inspired by it. Everything from a massive organism covering the sea floor to its appearance, reaction to light and predatory behavior.
